Product Description The critically acclaimed, Emmy® - nominated series about the inner workings of a New York City firehouse and the emotional battles of its members returns for a second season. Created and written by Denis Leary and Emmy® award winner Peter Tolan (“The Larry Sanders Show,” “Murphy Brown”), RESCUE ME’s second season finds Timmy Gavin (Denis Leary) away from his former crew, Truck Company 62, and wor desertcart.com Rescue Me is a wake up call for every man who (as a kid) dreamed about becoming a fireman and every woman who fantasized about being with one. As flawed and complicated as they are selfless and heroic, the fire fighters in this FX series are a compelling lot. They deal with infidelity, drug addiction, and sexual abuse on a daily basis and make it seem like old hat. But the characters are so well thought out that they almost always make viewers care about what's developing in their lives. This second season surpasses the debut year in terms of story lines and pacing. Series creator Denis Leary (Ice Age, No Cure for Cancer) reprises his role of Tommy Gavin. Separated from his wife and children and also battling a drinking addiction, Tommy is now working as the new guy in a Staten Island firehouse. He isn't a hero so much as he's his own best victim. Luckily, he's still got some loyal friends who're quick to nip his pity-parties short: "You feeling a little angry? You feeling a little hurt? You feeling betrayed? Well, congratulations, you're feeling, and you're feeling because you're sober." With his hangdog features and fast-paced speech pattern, Leary is surprisingly believable in the role. Returning character Chief Reilly (Jack McGee) faces some struggles of his own, as he watches his wife's spiral downward thanks to Alzheimer's. And it's not much easier for Franco (Daniel Sunjata), who is trying to figure out the best ways to care for his daughter while working an unpredictable schedule. While the drama on this show can sometimes be fiery and intense, the series provides enough biting humor to lend it an air of humanity and, at times, even a little warmth. It doesn't leave viewers wanting to be fire fighters, but rather empathizing with them. --Jae-Ha Kim Review: BEST SHOW EVER!!! - First caught this series on FX late one Saturday night. I was so riveted that I had to research the show online, just to see if it was still on TV. Found out they were coming into their 3rd season on FX starting May 30, 2006. I figured I had a lot of catching up to do so I went online and bought both seasons 1&2. Within 1 week I had both seasons watched. The show is centered around Tommy (Leary) but all characters posses "must see" personalities that make each and every scene better than the next. Tommy & Sheila (and Franco) sex scenes are just a hair shy of R movies and the fire scenes extremely realistic. It's now approx. 2 weeks until the season opener and I'm already jonesing. All characters possess some A-hole qualities (Tommy being the most) but all also hold very endearing qualities. The dialog is extremely witty and storylines fresh. The language is reminiscent of an HBO or Showtime special yet doesn't cross the line. Not recommended for kids (obviously) but for anyone older I highly recommend. This is my first post to desertcart and I've been buying for years. I have never felt compelled to make a post until now. I want everyone to know what a great show this is. Gotta keep it on FX for years to come. Review: TV'S FINEST - in an earlier review, it was written that this is the best drama on tv since "nypd blue".don't mean to be critical, but the only time "nypd blue" was an awesome drama was it's first two years. after david caruso jumped ship, and was replaced by the likes of jimmy smits, ricky schroeder and mark-paul gosselaar, all mediocre actors to say the least, it never lived up to it's potential. i felt sorry for dennis frantz, for after caruso left, he had to do all the heavy lifting on that show. never has one good actor been surrounded by so many bad actors. anyways this isn't the case with "rescue me"; all the actors in this series carry his/her weight. i also agree with most of the reviewers who write that this is the best show on tv today. i only hope that this deserving series gets,at least, a five year run. the highest praise i can give "rescue me" is that it's in the same league as "six feet under", which, imo, was the finest tv series ever. kudos to f/x for having the guts to present controversial and excellent shows, such as "over there" (sadly not renewed),"thief"(sadly not renewed), and of course "the shield" (what "nypd blue" could have been.)

TV'S FINEST
in an earlier review, it was written that this is the best drama on tv since "nypd blue".don't mean to be critical, but the only time "nypd blue" was an awesome drama was it's first two years. after david caruso jumped ship, and was replaced by the likes of jimmy smits, ricky schroeder and mark-paul gosselaar, all mediocre actors to say the least, it never lived up to it's potential. i felt sorry for dennis frantz, for after caruso left, he had to do all the heavy lifting on that show. never has one good actor been surrounded by so many bad actors. anyways this isn't the case with "rescue me"; all the actors in this series carry his/her weight. i also agree with most of the reviewers who write that this is the best show on tv today. i only hope that this deserving series gets,at least, a five year run. the highest praise i can give "rescue me" is that it's in the same league as "six feet under", which, imo, was the finest tv series ever. kudos to f/x for having the guts to present controversial and excellent shows, such as "over there" (sadly not renewed),"thief"(sadly not renewed), and of course "the shield" (what "nypd blue" could have been.)

Best Drama On TV !!!!!!!!!
This is arguably one of the greatest dramas EVER. I have to admit I am surprised myself. If asked I would have never believed leary could have done it, but he did. This movie combines the drama of public service along with one man's struggles. To use this as a stab at New York Fire Fighters is unacceptable. Sure, there is foul language, sex, and other adult themes in this show, but doesn't that make it even a more correct depiction of life. If your life is like one big "enzyte" commercial, or like a scene from the movie "Pleasentville" then you probably don't want to watch this. If you live in the real world (ie USA) then you will love this season of this series.

A realistic TV Drama
I was never a fan of Denis Leary's comedy, but his show, is excellent! Set in the post 9/11 New York Fire Department, this drama has a story line that has all the issues that real firefighters face, and lets us peak into the personal lives of the men (and ladies of the NYFD) I started watching the show in the 3rd season, so I wanted to see the past episodes, and these episodes did not disappoint! The characters are believable, realistic and facisnating! It is always nice to purchase an item, and then really be happy with it, and you will be happy with this DVD set.

This second season finds the characters spending more time in dark serious places, which I guess means it has more depth, but the bleakness is so consistent that it becomes predictable and loses it's impact after a while. The good fortune fate hands the characters is usually temporary, the bad fortune is usually permanent. I guess the thinking behind it is if something good happens to the characters and it's permanent then that's the end of their pursuit of happiness, so to keep it going the writers need to make sure every good thing that enters the character's lives ends badly. I'd like to see the writers set themselves the challenge of balancing the heavy drama between positive and negative and still find new places to take the show, but considering how comfortable they seem wallowing in tragedy I don't think I'll bother with the third season.

The Best Series - Ever!
This is probably the best television series I have ever seen. I started watching it on a recommendation and then couldn't stop. The characters are real and identifiable and one can't help being bonded with all of them. The depth of the story lines with both drama and humor are exceptional. I am eagerly awaiting the release of Season 3 on DVD -- evenings are very empty without "The Boys". Denis Leary and Peter Tolan are truly gifted writers. I am completely hooked!

Best show on TV.
I first saw this show this year during it's third season. After watching the first two shows of the season, I was hopelessly hooked. Some where during the middle of the third season, I decided to order the first two seasons on DVD to see what I had missed. Glad I did. This show has it all, great acting, great storylines, and it is also the funniest show on TV. Dennis Leary leads an incredible bunch of actors that play off of each other perfectly. Highly recommend this show.

Love this gritty american drama about firefighters coping with their jobs during the aftermath of 911, fantastic writing and brilliant acting make it seem more realistic than usual firefighter dramas. If you never saw the series on Sky 1 now is the time to get your hands on this masterpiece of TV, will be coming back to buy the rest of the series. Shame they are not showing season 4 in this country.

What a great series this is. We rec'd Season 1 as a gift years ago and loved it so much we purchased 2 and 3 right away. They are as good as Season 1.

What can I say ... This show is brilliant, season 1 was a hoot but season 2 is off the scale! Don't get me wrong there's some seriously messed up topics and moments but Dennis Leary is unbelievable! In fact the whole crew are outrageous. Some real shocker topics of conversation. A must for anyone who likes a show that takes "Political Correctness" and throws everything back in its face!

Maverick firefighter Tommy Gavin seems beyond rescue - transferred to a sleepy fire station where there is a swear box (quickly filled by him), grace before meals and call outs involving heads stuck in railings. Dependent on alcohol and drugs, he continues to hallucinate - Jesus and Mary Magdalen now joining those who haunt. Raw, robust and vibrant, Season 2 does not disappoint - its flawed heroes so fine at their job but floundering elsewhere. Humour abounds, more so than before. Note the team's forced attendance on a sensitivity course after colleague Laura officially complains about a CERTAIN WORD used. Enjoy Steve and Mike (the station's Dumb and Dumber) struggling at Scrabble with words like GO and IT. Such comedy lulls viewers into a false sense of security, the dramatic moments thus making even greater impact. Some are horrendous and genuinely upsetting, the finale culminating in an accumulation of grief. Perhaps not everything quite works - as when the ghost of cousin Jimmy becomes physical. The depiction of Jesus and Mary may also jar for some (and certainly caused problems for the show when seeking a Catholic church to film in). Such reservations aside, the season is a triumph for all - not least Denis Leary, its star who also writes and produces. Bonuses include real firefighters' reactions - inaccuracies pinpointed but high praise abundant. Full blooded fare, not for the squeamish - gritty and gripping, involving and memorable.
