Well Worth It
In my opinion, this game is brilliant. It's a very unique concept and the graphics are incredible. Some people seem to complain in other reviews that it's barely different from the Wii U version which you may want to keep in mind when buying this if you already have a Wii U, although if you're like me and don't own a Wii U, this is an absolutely brilliant game to get for the switch. The single player offline modes are challenging for first time players, and if you are up for more of a challenge, the multiplayer modes are very fun as you try to make your way up the rankings by winning matches. An important thing to point out is that you are unable to play this game with more than one person on one console. You are able to play with people in the same room via LAN connection, but both people will need to have their own console and copy of the game. Considering the switch is supposed to be a family console, good for multiplayer games, I'm surprised that a split screen local play mode isn't available. Still, I justify a five star rating based on the amazing quality of this game and it's extremely entertaining gameplay that keeps you playing for hours!

Must-own for Switch
This is a perfect update to the original game. Vastly improved graphics, new soundtrack, new stages, new gear and items, more customisation options and a better single player mode. Yet underpinning all of this is much of the same gameplay - which is certainly not a bad thing, considering how well Nintendo got it right first time round. The big draw of Splatoon is that it takes what's good about 'shooters' and puts it into a less violent set up. Strategy is key here, and the sense of achievement you get from essentially spraying ink everywhere is wonderful. You do not gain points for 'splats' (dissolving other players). Online is still the main focus of gameplay, where you can choose between Turf Wars (inking more turf then the opposing team) and Ranked Battles (unique rules and features). Salmon Run, which is a more scarce tournament, offers something a little different in that every player is essentially up against the CPU as a team, but this is far more challenging. As with other Switch games, it's not until you play the game in handheld mode that you can truly appreciate the potential of playing the Splatoon on the go. It looks gorgeous, and the gyro controls work flawlessly. Just watch the battery, however... Original Splatoon owners may find this entry to be more expected than surprising, however if you're new to the franchise, then I can only imagine the sense of excitement that will come from it.

Splatoon 1.5
Splatoon 2 is the sequel to the surprise hit from 2015 on the Wii U. The game is simple in its premise but complex in its strategy. You are a squid like creature that can change between kid that can use weapons, to a squid that can swim fast along the ground and up walls. However, while the game is amazingly fun and addictive to play it is undeniably a disappointment in many areas and feels more like a 1.5 version then a complete new entry in the series. First off the game is severely lacking anything new of any real value. All the game modes from the first are back along with most of the levels and weapons. However it still uses that annoying timed system where only two levels are playable at a time. I’m not sure how often they rotate (I think it’s daily but I’m not sure) but I found myself playing the same two maps for around an hour and soon become frustratingly board of playing them over and over again. There is a new game mode called Salmon Run but so far, I’ve yet to play it as for some reason it can only be played during certain times and I never seem to be around during those times. It does boast some customizing with the ability to purchase new clothing which have game changing effects like speed boost and toughness to name just a couple. You can also select the hair style, skin and eye colour but apart from that, not much else. However, that being said it is an improvement on the first game so it should be credited for that. But enough about what the game doesn’t have and more about wat it does. The game is split into two styles, single player and multiplayer. The single player continues the story from the first game and is pretty much the same thing. You start at the beginning of the level and must make your way through it until you reach the end. A little bit like Mario 3D land / World. While it is better than the first games campaign, I was still disappointed by it. It feels like more of the same with a few new things thrown in for good measure. I personally would like to have seen a real campaign adventure like the upcoming Mario Odyssey or even a Zelda style game. I know many will disagree but you have to admit, the single player does feel quite dull at times. It does have some replay value to it though as there are collectables in each level and you can replay any level with any new weapons you pick up later on. So as I say, the single player isn’t bad just safe. It doesn’t try anything major nor does it stray from the first games shadow. However, this game is really all about multiplayer and it doesn’t disappoint there! If you’ve played the first game then you already know what it’s all about but for newbies I tell you how it works. You are split into two teams of four and are armed with weapons that shoot ink. The team that covers the most ground with their teams colour wins! You gain no points for killing the other team (although many players don’t seem to take notice of that!) and while it might sound a little dull it really is great fun and very addictive. There are a couple of other modes such as king of the hill style game but they are only available once you reach a certain level. One thing I did miss was the minigame from the first game while waiting in the lobby. Not sure why it was taken out but still a shame to see it missing. Overall though the game is undeniably fun despite its shortcomings. While I do feel this game may have been rushed to fill up the Switches library, it is still a worthy purchase. A disappointing sequel but still a fun and addictive game. Also, the inklings are super cute! Gameplay (17/20) Graphics (16/20) Sound (18/20) Replay Value (17/20) Value for Money (16/20) Total (84/100)

One of the best games on Switch
I played the first Splatoon on the Nintendo Wii U when it came out and I loved it! I thought that game had a lot to do but Splatoon 2 feels much more complete! pros: It's colourful, fun and most importantly fresh! There's a lot more maps in the rotation to start with and there is even more to come. There are more options to customise your Squid Kid. The Single Player is a lot of fun and teaches you how to effectively play the game if you are new to inkopolis square! There are new weapons, gear, maps to be added! You can download the Switch app to see your stats, and order exclusive gear! New game mode, food that helps you rank up faster! Cons: You have to use the switch app on your phone in order to communicate with friends. (but if you don't really play with friends then this isn't that big of a problem) Can't directly communicate with anyone without the phone app. Still no playable octolings. But overall still a great game!

I love this game, I have nothing bad to say about it but what I do want people to be aware of is that you may be getting a European cartridge. Which means if you want the octo expansion and have an American region account you will not be able to download that DLC from the e-shop and use it. They are not compatible you will end up paying for an expansion you cannot use. I wasn’t aware of this until literally today and don’t want people to deal with what I did !
