Has anyone been unable to open the case? I've just received a replacement, but still can't open it, even with brute force. Worth exchanging again?

They are a little stiff to open, and you do have to use a bit of force. But only the 1st time you open it, after that it is fine.

Can this be used with any black decker drill machine ? how about model number bcd700s1k-gb

It's a set of drill bits and sockets. If it can't be used with that drill, I would be very surprised.

Are any of the bits suitable for drilling through tiles?

yes they are but do tape the tile first then use drill bit other wise tile will crack
