According to other customers, apparently this item comes with or without a rotating clip at the top. With my recent purchase, it did come with such a clip along with two clear rings that can be secured to the spinning portion with screws. The manufacturers had two methods in mind for hanging flags: If you have a flag without grommets, where the pole passes through a sleeve at one end, the rotating clip at the top was intended only to attach to the top of the sleeve to keep it from dropping down the pole. The two rings are not to be used. However, if you have a flag with grommets, you are to use the two rings to fasten the flag directly to the pole with their screws. The rings are supposed to be spread far enough apart so that there is nearly no slack, making the flag somewhat resemble the sleeve-type flag discussed above. The effect comes off better than I would have thought. However, I favor flags with a little more slack, more resembling flags hoisted on ropes, so went another way: I used the top rotating clip to hold the top grommet, and discovered that a Nite Ize KIC-11-R3 Infini-Key key ring, available at Amazon, could be used to secure the lower grommet loosely to the pole. I used one the pole's optional rings to keep the key-ring from rising too high, but I am not really sure that would have been a serious problem. So far, after about three months, the flag has been waving without any wrapping around the pole. A good product, overall, IMO.

I used to be in a position to buy VVF products and resell them to the end user. Everything we had them ship to end users was top notch and the best in the industry. I guess somethings change over the years, and I noticed that this flagpole was manufactured in China, not the USA. VFF belongs to an organization that commits to make all their flags in the US, but for flagpoles, I guess the promise isn't the same. Why does that matter? Well, the pole is described correctly, and it seems to performs just fine, but the fit and finish is not up to par for VFF products in general. Specifically, the silver/chrome painted ball at the top of the pole shows evidence of poor finishing, with "chips" of paint missing here and there. It doesn't affect the performance of the product, but when you buy new, you expect an unmarred, unused appearance. One star deducted for less than great fit and finish.

This pole is clearly meant for sleeve - not grommet - flags, as it DOES NOT come with any clear or unclear plastic rings, either separately or on the pole. Otherwise it looks OK, but I doubt its longevity, since the joint between the two pole pieces is all plastic.
