Is the thumbscrew on this product made from brass or aluminium as the pictures are conflicting?

Aluminium, would have preferred brass.

Is the rule etched or stamped with ink?

On both sides the scales are etched and inset with black ink. See attached video.

Is lock nut sprung (spring visible as undone) so blade doesn't just slide about when not locked?

There isn't a lock nut. There is a pin which is solid and doesn't budge when tightened and is spring loaded.
