Teaches analytical skills..
This book helps develop good analysis skills for tackling the set texts. It teaches in great detail how to respond to Poetry, Prose, Drama and the Unseen text. For my children, I found that they needed a lot of help in analyzing poetry at first but as we progressed through the book, they could understand the imagery, structure, mood etc. without so much help from me. The book has lots of tips/ definitions and practice ideas included. I must say that unless your child already has advanced skills in Literature or you are an English Major, they will need a Literature tutor to help them fully prepare for the exam. Although we are homeschooling, a tutor for a few lessons helps us get a different perspective and be better organized, which is good for thorough preparation. Please note that this book does not focus on any specific texts in the current 2013 syllabus; this book simply teaches the SKILLS you need to be able to work through your set texts and the Unseen text. For specific help with the individual set books in the syllabus, you may need to get the relevant Cambridge Guide/SparkNotes/York etc. There are no model answers to the tasks in this book. An examiner's comments are included for only a couple of extracts. A CD with A*-C model answers to all the questions would have made this book perfect.

Excellent revision/workbook, we are using this book at the tuition centre which is Inspire Tuition Centre based in Kentish Town (London). The students really enjoy working through this book have spoken positively about it.

È stato davvero un ottimo acquisto. I testi vengono analizzati sotto vari punti di vista (lessicale, simbolico, stilistico…) attraverso domande ed attività che si possono proporre ad una classe in maniera dinamica. Pian piano ci si ritrova ad acquisire un metodo di analisi che poi però dovrebbe essere integrato da delle conoscenze storiche letterarie. Un ottimo punto di partenza (o di arrivo, a seconda delle esigenze). Sono molto soddisfatta.
