Amazing game

I liked everything about this game

Until Dawn by SuperMassive was one of the greatest "Quantic Dream" style games around. The quality of production felt excellent, atleast for the format. It was nothing new, but it was great. Fast forward to the Dark Pictures series (a truly wonky mix of "good & awful" quality); it was clear SuperMassive were going badly downhill. Fast forward again to "The Quarry" and you REALLY wonder how the company was allowed to charge full price for such a mess of a game. Terrible visual quality, terrible music throughout (despite TWO selectable soundtracks!!!), utterly stupid & unlikable protagonists (you will WANT all the good guys to be killed), plain bad writing and a story you WILL correctly predict most of the time, even if not concentrating. Lance Henrikson is a guest star (what a cameo for 80's-90's lovers!) but his appearance here is completely redundant due to the game itself being so irredeemable. I love "Interactive Movie" games, but I don't think I could ever trust giving money to SuperMassive again. This game wasn't even worth a tenner, but it was 3 times that...

The seller a 5 and the game a 3 you might ask? Well the simple answer the seller sold me a new copy of the quarry, Supermassive games sold me a mixed bag. The game could have been a 4 or 5 but the Dylan character and the annoying Brenda Song character were too much in nearly every scene. Both are not good characters for different reasons, Brenda sounds like she is phoning it in, literally. Some of the game is good, the look and sound are great, the story is decent but has its share of stupid moments. I like the cinematic type games like Heavy Rain, Indigo Prophecys and until dawn but the controls are hard or sluggish for some people (my fiancee for one) but the quarry finally made the game playable while still being competitive. For instance, you can change the buttons to be hit to any random button or as simple as just press either analog in a certain direction. You can also adjust the timing of inputs in various situations. The best part was after finishing the game and getting 1 out of 184 endings we could watch the game as a movie where everyone lives dies or plays based on the attributes you give each character. I wish until dawn had that feature. The game did crash a few times, once being a big enough glitch to need the update downloaded again. This is basically the sequel to Until Dawn which is why we bought and finished it but it seems the game studio which also makes The Dark Pictures Anthology series is going in a w o k e/girl power direction over the last few games. Pretty telling to me that as a gamer I find Until Dawn and Man of Medan to be the studios best games and it's before w o k e was so forced into everything. I won't give any spoilers for those who want to play this game but the game has you pick who to kiss in a game of truth or dare and the options are the 2 most annoying characters I mentioned above, I thought that was funny.
