Magnetic Stud Finder
The CH Hanson 03040 Stud 4 Sure Magnetic Stud Finder is a reliable tool that simplifies the process of finding studs behind walls. Here’s my detailed review after using it: **Design and Build:** The stud finder is compact and fits comfortably in hand. Its ergonomic design allows for easy maneuverability across walls. The casing feels sturdy and durable, ensuring longevity even with frequent use. **Ease of Use:** One of the standout features of the Stud 4 Sure is its simplicity. It operates using powerful rare earth magnets, eliminating the need for batteries or calibration. Simply move it along the wall until it attaches to a metal fastener, indicating the presence of a stud. This straightforward approach makes it ideal for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts. **Accuracy:** In terms of accuracy, the Stud 4 Sure performs admirably. It reliably detects nails, screws, or metal fasteners typically used in studs. However, it’s worth noting that it won’t identify wooden studs without metal fasteners, which could be a limitation in some cases. **Versatility:** While primarily designed for locating metal fasteners, the Stud 4 Sure can also serve other purposes such as finding pipes or conduits behind walls. This adds to its utility beyond just locating studs. **Value for Money:** Priced competitively, the CH Hanson 03040 Stud 4 Sure offers excellent value for money. Its durable construction, ease of use, and reliable performance make it a worthwhile investment for anyone undertaking home improvement projects. **Conclusion:** Overall, the CH Hanson 03040 Stud 4 Sure Magnetic Stud Finder is a dependable tool that delivers on its promises. It excels in simplicity, accuracy for metal fasteners, and durability. Whether you’re hanging shelves, mounting TVs, or performing other tasks that require locating studs, this stud finder proves to be an indispensable asset in your toolkit. Highly recommended for its reliability and ease of use.

Don't worry, it's smaller then they make it look. I'll never be without one.
Brilliant. was not expecting great things from this, mostly because I thought it would be too large to stay stuck to the wall on the strength of a single drywall screw. For some strange reason the people marketing this wonderful little device have done all they can to make it look bigger in their photos. Ironically this was one thing that got me questioning whether to buy it or not. I've just looked over the posting again and it says its 117 mm long which is way smaller then you'd think going by the picture of it being held up against a wall. The fact that it's so small, seems smaller then 117mm, and the fact that it weighs next to nothing, means that sure enough, this thing absolutely sticks to walls and ceilings that contain drywall screws at the normal depth, ie. 3mm - 6mm. You practically have pry the thing away from corner beads, and i'm gonna make sure never to put it in the same pocket as my phone coz this magnet sure as hell is strong. Works perfectly. Of course it only detects ferrous material at a certain depth. So if the bloke that built and boarded the stud wall wasn't very good he probably won't of put any screws in the noggins, so you won't be finding them. Also if the walls were constructed way way out of plumb or not straight enough, you'll find sometimes that someone else has come along and straightened things out with plaster. This will of course increases the depth of the screw depending on how far out things were in the first place. That said though, the vast majority of walls are built well, and its nearly always studs we're after. This will tell you for sure if there is a screw holding board to a stud. Have used it many times now to great effect. Will never be without one.

Good little gadget...
Prior to buying this "gadget" I tested the theory behind it with a quite powerful medical magnet and it found a few nails in a stud - the location of which I knew for certain. This does the job even better as it's quite compact, and has two powerful magnets a couple of inches apart; and thus enables one to bracket a probable nail/screw etc.; and it's also lighter and easier to use. It also worked reasonably well through a layer of bathroom tiles affixed to hard board surface nailed to the studs - by Bodger Bill the builder almost 50yrs ago I guess. In this case one has to be a wee bit more patient and sensitive to the change in pull of the magnet when it locates a nail/screw; but it does find them. One might benefit by using a keeper for the scanning pole surfaces? I seem to recall (school physics) that magnets retain their flux (strength) longer if they have a suitable metal surface applied to them when in storage? Considering its facility of use, compactness etc. - I'd buy it again; as it does what it says - and no batteries.

So easy - it just does the job and find the studs!
What a great, simple yet hand tool! No batteries to fail, it just works (and will go on working for ever!) I was a bit hesitant getting this magnetic stud finder at 1st, as I thought it was so simple if might not work too well (I tend to go for electronic gadgets!) but on this occasion I'm very glad I did. I was doing a utility room refit in our stud walled house, and needed to be sure to screw the main cupboard supports into solid timber, not just the plasterboard. This simple too did the job remarkably easily, a few sweeps of it over the wall, and bingo, you can feel the pull of the nails in the stud behind the plaster. it took me only 20 minutes or so to find and mark the vertical lines for all the studs in the room. Recomended!

Dammnnn good
I work in a contruction environment where everyday I can be somewhere new and drilling in walls. My drilling is mostly for wall cabinets or support for worktops etc. Some days are easier than others. The easier days in the aspect of drilling is when the walls are solid. The other days are when the walls are not solid and I need to find a stud. This can be a right pain. They can be at 300,400 and 600mm centers away from each other. However there is no way to tell. Plus they can start anywhere, not from from the corner of the wall. And sometime the studs don't even have measurements and are just slapped in by some stupid cowboy that doesn't their head. Now I need these studs as I am hanging heavey wall cabinets and sure as hell am not going to use plasterboard fixings. The fitters that I work with don't have any sort of detectors and said that they have tried but are useless at finding studs so the only way they can find a stud is with guesswork, measuring and dril a million holes into the plasterboard (where the units are going to be) which takes time and make it look like you shot a machine gun at the wall. Seeing this I looked at digital detectors myself yet saw mixed reviews and some where incredibly expensive. That's when I can across this bad boy. I took mine in and it worked like a dream. The metal studs are so easy to find and the wooden ones are not much harder, just needs more sweeping across the wall and a bit more to check after the first find. The other fitters saw this and have had to order another two for them to. Makes the job easier, quicker and less messy for them. Can not knock it at all for the price you pay so 5 stars from me. I will still be buying a pipe and cable detector as this won't detect these and will not go by guesswork. Better safe than sorry I say. Least I won't have to pay out a lot for that type of detector.

Great little product at a great price
After having just moved into a new house I had lots of little DIY jobs planned, hanging pictures, putting up shelves etc. I knew I had to buy a stud finder but when shopping around for the electronic ones (which are the only ones I knew existed) I couldn't bring myself to buy any of them based on them having so many negative reviews. A large number of people said that they just weren't accurate at all, and I came to the conclusion there's no point in spending £50 on something that doesn't work. I then stumbled across this magnetic stud finder, and thought what the hey...it's only £7 what's there to lose. After using it I was very impressed. The magnets are extremely strong, so they can easily located the nails in the studs through the wall...enough so that it will hold itself to the wall quite strongly. You can attach a string to the loop on the end so you can mark out the full length of the stud. The spirit level is a handy little addition which helps with this. Very happy with this product and would definitely recommend it. Try it before ordering a move expensive electronic one.

Cheaper magnets do the same thing
It works but its no different from just buying a cheaper 41KG pulling force neodymium magnet

Simply Brilliant
Brilliant! Simple little thing but worked absolutely perfectly, sticking strongly to plasterboard screws through thick plaster and paint. Cheap alternative to the digital options to find a stud.

A fine tool
Magnetic Stud Finder - Amazon Review 5/5 Stars. I remember hearing the term “stud finder” when I was younger, and thinking it meant something sexual. In fact, the phrase just typically refers to a tool designed to help you find support beams in your wall. That’s what this item is: it’s a tool that will help you find support beams in your wall. Probably just metal support beams because it’s magnetic, but maybe there’s some way it could find wooden ones too (for example, by magnetizing to metal nails in the wood). Anyway, unless you get more imaginative, or use the term to describe something other than this tool, “stud finder” is not really sexual. Maybe this is important to you. Maybe this is reassuring. Maybe this is a let-down. I bought this tool because I needed to find some support beams in my ceiling and figured that using this tool would help me do that. When you type “stud finder” into Amazon (not some other search engine), you’ll find that there are many versions of this tool. If you’re reading this review, you probably already know that. Anyway, selecting the right tool can be daunting, especially when confronted with so much choice. Too much choice can be overwhelming. Crippling even, in a sort of psychic or emotional or psycho-emotional way. I chose this tool because I didn’t understand why I’d need all the fancy features of the other tools, those features, in my mind at least, running the risk of complicating things. I liked the idea of some simple magnet just guiding the way. I fantasized about putting this tool against my wall, and it sticking there when it would inevitably find a stud under my exploratory reach. I’m giving this tool 5 stars, because it did what I expected it to do, and I’m pretty sure it found me some metal support beams. When you feel it magnetize into place, you might get a rush of excitement, or even confidence in your abilities and in your exploratory reach (that is, the way you so successfully explore your wall with this tool, guiding it to one support beam or another). You might move the tool slowly, as I did, letting it sail smoothly across your wall (or even ceiling!). This can be very calming. Comforting even. Or, if you’re in a rush, or just like to move quickly, you might race it across your wall, like it were a little rocket, or toy car. If you do that, you might feel like a kid playing with a toy car. If you make the appropriate sound effects, engine roaring and tires squeaking and whatnot, you might really feel like a kid playing with a toy car. You might feel young again, whatever that means for you and your personal relationship with time, with your age, with mortality. This magnetic stud finder was a fine purchase for me, and helped me accomplish the thing I wanted to do with the support beams. It might work well for you too. I'm not including photos, but you can use your imagination. Just close your eyes and think "stud finder."

Great product; amazing alternative to electronic stud finders
A magnetic stud finder is very easy to use, requires no power or battery, and in most cases can be much more reliable than electronic ones which often give false reading. This particular model is both compact and uses powerful magnets.
