Nice product which seems very sensitive
This seems to do the job very well, when it arrived I was slightly surprised at the size as it looks fairly small in the pictures, it can be easily held in one hand however and the larger size blades means it will pick up even the smallest of breezes. It has a backlight function which illuminates the screen with a nice bright light, very easy to see in all lighting conditions. It also comes with 2 x AAA batteries which were hidden inside the battery compartment wrapped in plastic which I found to my surprise after buying a fresh pack of triple As and unscrewing the 2 small screws which hold the battery cover in place. The thermometer seems to be accurate, and although I do not own another anemometer I trust the readings which it is given as it seems really very sensitive to even the slightest shift in wind speed. Today it seems to be completely still outside my house, when I held this out of the window I was getting readings between 0.3 km/h and 0.7 km/h. Included in the box there is also a nice little zip wallet to keep it safe, a basic instruction booklet and a small black lanyard/wrist strap which screws into the threading on the bottom of the unit - this can also be mounted on a tripod using the same threaded hole. You are able to switch between m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots and mph as the unit of measurement, and celsius/fahrenheit for temperature. There is also a max/min function which could be useful if like me you are using this to judge whether or not it is safe to fly a drone. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend to anyone.

Excellent unit for this price point
For less than £20 this is an excellent bit of kit to keep in my field-box. I fly model aircraft, and it's good to know what sort of wind speeds you're getting when on the field, as this will determine whether or not you can safely fly a particular model. The unit's a nice size, and easy to hold while wearing gloves. The fan is also a nice size and seems to handle small breezes as well as strong gusts, showing good level of robustness. The display is functional, but does have some nice touches, such as min/max/avg, as well as temp and a wind-chill indicator. The min/max/avg functions are a bit lacking, but, for the price, I'm not going to drop a point. There's also a nice tripod mount thread in the base, so you can leave it running on a tripod for other flyers (or anyone else) to view. If you need an anemometer for sailing, or other action activities, you may want to look for something waterproofed and with more protection, as this unit is definitely better for dry-land use. Overall, it's a cracking little unit and very easy to use. If you're after an anemometer, then you should be happy with this one.

Great instrument
Really good instrument - good size fan on really free running bearings and, as far as I can tell, accurate measurements. Also nice big clear screen showing results. There only little niggle I have is that the screw which attaches the lanyard was not properly machined (or else the captive nut it screws into) and was really difficult to screw in, and if you leave it in place it doesn't really fit in the carrying case any more.

Instructions are useless but it's fairly intuitive
Bought for pro drone flying. It's a decent size and comes in a carry case although could probably do with some padded protection. Instructions are useless but it's fairly intuitive. The main problem occurs in light and variable wind where it's difficult to know where the wind is coming from. Ideally this would indicate wind direction so you can point into wind for an accurate reading. However saying that it's stronger winds that I'm more concerned with and these tend to be from a fixed direction, and very easy to point into wind. The only thing that concerns me is that it doesn't stay on for very long. So if I try and do an average wind speed check it normally has switched off before I remember to read the value. Then the average value is cleared when switched back on. Not sure if this is a fault or not. Also it would make more sense for the blades to power the device and use battery to top up. However I've not used it enough to know how long batteries last. I like the inclusion of a tripod mount. I tried on a lighting stand but the stronger winds blew it over so definitely worth sticking on a normal tripod which will be much more difficult to topple. I also purchased a windsock to give wind direction, although the windsock also gives an indication of windspeed, perhaps making this a bit superfluous. But for a quick reference to wind speed this seems to fit the bill.

Good Value for Money
The HP-866B seems quite robust and is well packaged having a nylon protective case. I was slightly confused with the instructions at first as the numbers on the diagram do not match the numbers used in the instructions but it soon becomes obvious and you should follow the circled numbers in the instructions. I have not been able to check the accuracy of the readings properly but inside the house when I'm walking it measures a steady 3 mph which is probably about right. The only thing that I may find disappointing is the wind chill factor feature - I was expecting a button that would express this figure when required but it appears that only a symbol will come up (as on your car thermometer) when the temp is less than 0 degrees but I will have to wait and see but a symbol to say that it is cold when you are stood outside is not necessary. Overall, I feel it is good value and the various wind speed alternatives are useful.

Just the job
This review is for the HOLDPEAK 866B Digital Anemometer I bought this for 3 reasons. To check the wind speed for safe model helicopter flying, to test the flow from some fans that I deal with and to confirm air flow moving at various points within a room. The description basically says it all with regards to the specs and the features. Backlight for those dark corners and situations Adjustable display with Mph, meters/s, Foot/minute,Km/hour Knots, Minimum and maximum detected speed record function (good for variable conditions or where you are using it and can't see the display). Average wind speed, or current speed. Built in thermometer will give temperature, which I find reasonably accuret The impellor has no resistance, and will spin at the slightest air flow. The readout is clear, concise and with a "stay on" backlight for low light conditions.(it doesn't go off after a few seconds which is good if you are using it for an extended time) Nice handheld size, weight and feels well made. Won't be trying a drop test, well not on purpose anyways. Batteries are supplied inside the unit, and the plastic protective wrapping must be removed from them before use. Note: A small philips screwdriver will be needed to remove the 2 screws from the battery compartment. Bad points... None that I can see. Would I recommend to friends and family... yes Would I buy again ... yes Thanks for reading, and I hope some information was useful. It is was, I'd appreciate a click on "yes" against "Was this review helpful to you" below.

Rekommenderas!
