The History Book

The publisher DK has earned my trust over many purchases from children’s educational books to cookery etc and this book is another extremely well-laid-out, highly informative yet user-friendly book. As a quality introduction / overview of history it is excellent. As with any book on such a broad topic the secret is in the editing and this book offers a good summary of main historic events without becoming bogged down in excessive detail. As an introduction to history or a basic grounding in ‘how we got to where we are’ I highly recommend it. I bought it for myself to fill some gaps in my now rusty knowledge of history and I’m thoroughly enjoying it - it’s so well formatted into. Ite-sized chapters that enjoyment is easy. I’m middle-aged but it’s be similarly approachable and engaging for younger readers from about 11yrs up. My two teenage sons have commented favourably about it too.

This is a very fantastic history book marrying all the history of the world under one book it is quite eye opening and full of different information for all ages and easy to read

World History is such a massive subject that no single volume can do it justice. But as a starter to dip your toes in this massive subject and perhaps choose what you’d like to find out more about this is a good if basic read.

Bought The History Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained for £14.48. It's a straightforward overview of world history, covering everything from early humans to modern wars. The layouts are clear, with timelines, charts and illustrations that make it easier to follow than a standard textbook. It works well as a quick reference or refresher rather than deep study. Some sections feel quite brief, but that's expected for this kind of summary book. Delivery with Prime was quick and returns are simple if needed.

My 13 year old loves this book and is always making me aware of new things she has learnt. This book has resulted in her going online to learn other historic facts, to guide her learning. Will definitely aid her thirst to learn more, and will help her with her History GCSE's when the time comes. Easy to read and digest. Very Satisfied with product and price point.

Thrilled with this. Needed something for ten year old to catch up on the last few hundred years of history in a nutshell, and this is just the thing. Each double-page spread is an important world event, with a quick bulletpoint list of the events that influenced it, some images, quotes and summaries. It endeavours to present both sides, where this is relevant, and is both highly informative but breaks the information down, having one central essay interspersed with boxes of supplementary information. It doesn't just cover the same 5 topics that schools focus on. There's a number of fascinating entries from Asia, Africa and from the US, areas often neglected in the school curriculum. Perfect for dipping in and out of, and an excellent reference guide for homework. Beautifully presented, too.

Wonderfully delivered by Amazon! This is a really well made book and contains almost all small and big historical events. Loads of pictures and very informative as well. Very helpful for anyone wishing to know history.

Important historical events concisely explained over 3-4 pages per action. Authors avoid bias and stress relevance not sensationalism. A good read for a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
