What are the inside dimensions of the "U" opening?

A 2x4 piece of lumber fits just right.

What is the space from top hole to bottom hole. I want to mount the brackets on a horizontal fence 2x4. Will the brackets fit ok on a horizontal 2x4?

The top hole to bottom hole is 5”. You’d have to mount on a 2 x 4 vertically. 2 x 6 or wider would work horizontally.

What the internal width of the bracket? i need something that is 53mm?

The width of the metal bar used in the brackets is 1.5625 inches and the opening space (designed for a finished 2 x 4 piece of lumber) is 1.6875 inches at the bottom of opening and 1.75 inches at top of opening. I wasn’t sure which measurement you were asking about so gave you both measurements.
