Q: i remember as a kid ovaltine was crunchy is this crunchy or powdery

Not the same crystalline, crunchy consistency as in 50s-60s -- which I preferred; but once mixed in milk, the same great taste.

Q: How does this taste compared to nestle carnations malted milk powder?

Carnation malted milk powder is richer in malt flavor. Ovaltine is not so "malty" but has a caramel/nougat flavor with a malt base. Of course that's pretty subjective.

Q: Shelf life aftet expiration date

If you close it tightly and place in the refrigerator, I have kept it up to a year without changing the taste. HTH

Look it up on line and there will be a list of ingredients. I called and they said NO CAFFEINE and that was what I was most concerned about. The chocolate version probably does have caffeine which is why I use the malt version.
