Irish drama following two children, Kylie (Kelly O'Neill) and Dylan (Shane Curry), who run away from their troubled family homes on the outskirts of Dublin at Christmas time. The pair head for the centre of the city, where they glimpse human life in all its colourful diversity - but as darkness falls and the night wears on, an uglier side of the city emerges and the two must rely on their wits and their friendship to survive. Review: as close to real life as you can get; - I have watched many films about ireland and its troubles.this dvd is a beautiful film about two young children who run away from thier troubles.and what they encounter along the way in the gritty hardships of life in dublin the good and the bad side the people they come into contact with, the acting is fantastic which makes the film more enjoyable. Review: A beautifully shot, moving film - I'd heard of this film some time ago, but hadn't got around to watching it until recently. I was attracted to it because it's about Ireland, but as I watched it, I soon realised that it was a genuinely good film. It's about two young children, about 11-12 years old, I'd guess. Neighbours, they are good friends, quite possibly because their home situations are so dire. As I mentioned in the title, this film is beautifully shot - some important scenes are filmed in monochrome but gradually change to full colour. The two main actors play convincing roles, and their story as they run away from home, into the centre of Dublin, is believable, intense and moving. Most convincingly of all, the film does not give us a sugar sweet ending. Instead, it brings us a moment of huge passion and emotion, and an open-ended possibility that things might go well - or that they might not. This is a fine film, almost definitely made on a shoe-string budget. Highly recommended. Ben Kane, author of Spartacus: The Gladiator.

A memorable experience
Two weeks after first seeing this film, I find myself remembering scenes from it, like a favourite dream you can't forget. The two main characters are totally likeable and extremely believable, incredible when you consider that this was their first roll. I found myself engrossed from the start and the film seemed to be over far too soon. It has a lot to say and is effective in the manner in which it say's it. I consider myself fussy about the films I will admit to enjoying, I haven't enjoyed one this much since 'Once' 2006.

The item arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. The film itself is great. Adults could not have played a love story any better. This is a story about two kids who live next door to each other in a "not so great" area outside of Dublin. They each have a hard knock life. The girl, Kylie, lives with her mom and siblings and gets visits from a relative no kids should be around. The boy, Dylan, lives with his mom and physically abusive dad. An event results in them taking off to Dublin. They are not city kids so it is a real adventure for them to be in Dublin. The film chronicles what happens to them while in Dublin- how they rely on one another and look out for one another. The acting of the two young stars is spot on and just plain good. It's almost like they weren't even acting. I watched this movie several times just because it's that good. So often, movies that depict the harshness of life can be depressing, and even though there wasn't some nicely tied up happy ending like in American movies, the ending didn't feel depressing. I felt like there was hope for these two given their strength of characters. Highly recommended.

This is a great film which I was unable to fully enjoy. The description says it is close captioned, but apparently the powers that be decided it was only necessary to cc 20% of the film. It is beyond my comprehension that in the 21st century, a film company finds it impossible to produce a DVD with close captions that actually work. What were those post production gits up to, obviously not what they were suppose to be up to. Adding insult to injury, it's set in Dublin, good luck understanding what is said even with properly functioning close captions. My enjoyment of this wonderful film has been completely ruined by inept, ham fisted post production sabotage. Must have been done in England.

This movie was a pleasant find. The two young actors are really great. The plot was involving, and the script was good. Where this movie really shines is in the directing and cinematography. It was beautiful in the way they captured the kids' adventure as they both run away from horrible home circumstances to even worse circumstances in the big city, where reality hits them straight in the face. We really feel the huge character arc from beginning to end. A good one to own.

A bittersweet story of young love and affection in the setting abuse and poverty both of spiritual and literal kind. The beautiful moody cinematography displays the gritty underbelly of Irish society and urban Dublin debunking the shamrock cheerful Irish stereotype many of us in the Irish diaspora were brought up to believe. Sad yes but still a beautifully told story
