why is the cost so high, is it do to it being a preorder or is the cost going to be the same upon release?

These items are very hard to get - I heard Target is putting them in their add this week, by my contact said they don't have any. I have a feeling these will be impossible to get this Xmas. For resellers who sell on Amazon, the price has to be high as Amazon takes $12-16 dollars. You have to sell them for $65 just to break even the shipping. If you can get one for $70 with Prime shipping, I would get it. These could be those $200 items in November, but I could be wrong. It's really hard to say, but I've seen actual retailers selling them at $60. I can honestly say this toy is cool - my whole extended family is getting them for the annual Xmas battle

Does this take batteries? What powers it?

6 d batteries. There is a button you have to hold beneath the trigger that starts a motor. Ball goes through two spinning discs.

I might be missing something, but it's not obvious to me where you actually insert the batteries?

In the blaster’s stock where the black plastic is, there are two screws you have to tell remove to take out the battery tray :)

how many times a month do you have to replace the batteries?

There is no real way to answer that. Different batteries have different mAh. Also how often are you using it? How long are you revving the motors?

i have a jokester at home who likes to pop me with her nerf darts. very happy with this purchase because now it makes a nice little war at home lots of fun. this thing has some power to it. i mean don't think you're gonna knock anyones teeth out. makes for a ton of laughs creeping up on your kids and blasting them with a few of these high velocity nerf rounds when they least expect it
