Mission 778X Integrated Amplifier (Black)

The 778X has a confidence-inducing weight, it's steel body and controls really make the amp feel as though it was built like old audio gear; the versatile I/O options are convenient. I often feel as though a lot of products made today get let down by their build quality, even when going up the price ranges; the 778X, whilst not crazy expensive or cheap, is built as I would hope it would be for around £550. It's solid, dense-feeling and will last if treated properly. With regards to sound, the amp paired with a pair of Klipsch R-50M speakers, sounds warm; the low-ends are punchy, the mids are detailed and the highs are clear and low-noise. The dedicated phono input is very nice to have, in addition to a bunch of line-level and digital inputs, not to forget the Bluetooth, which is obviously not going to sound nearly as good as wired lossless sources. Vinyl sounds good, local hi-res lossless FLAC or WAV files (mostly pop, K-Pop, city Pop, jazz, indie-pop/rock) sound awesome; the amp and dac are impressed me with how well they handled insane resolutions and bit-rate files. The built-in 6.35mm headphone output, paired with my ATH-M50X over-ear monitors sounds more analytical and sharp compared to the Klipsch speakers; which is to be expected. Good to know, as it means the warmth observed during playback via the R-50Ms isn't applicable to all output devices. I strongly recommend, for anyone considering the 778X for a music listening system, to make sure your input devices and audio sources are better than mere MP3 files streamed through Spotify; as you wouldn't be taking advantage of anywhere near what the amp can handle. Ultimately the mix of design and construction of older audio equipment, combined with modern interfaces and features makes it a very good fit for someone who values UI, practicality and aesthetic appeal (if you like the brutalist/minimalist vibe).

Excellent sound quality. I use the wiim ultra with pmsl pro. Fyne audio f302i. Excellent out of the box. Hopefully even better when it runs in a bit. It beats my old marantz pm6006.

Had the item for about 2 months used every day, excellent build quality & sound quality. The onboard Dac is superb am using my Marantz CD 5005 player ( purchased from Amazon in 2018) as a transport thru the coax input. Laptop for streaming Amazon music using usb connection also superb. Very happy with purchase and can highly recommend it

Paired this ( I thought temporally ) with an older pair of Tannoy M1 bookshelf speakers with the intention of buying some floorstanders soon. Now I may not bother. I never imagined this sound pouring out of these small bookshelf speakers. The weight of sound and clarity from this amp is amazing. From Massive Attack to Tori Amos, the sound is gorgeous. Highly recommend

I'll start by saying I didn't buy the Mission Amp from Amazon. They didn't have it in stock at the time. This really is a great little amplifier. The shoebox shape is ideal to stand alongside my Denon DCD50 cd player ( which I did buy from Amazon ) It's a well made unit, weighing just over 6 kilos. Lovely sound. Very good bluetooth facility. But for me it's the vinyl replay that is excellent. I have a Pro Ject turntable with its own phono stage preamp, but I switched to the Mission. It really does sound superb. Play any analogue recordings and this little beauty sings along delightfully. Has a very competent headphone amp too. I think you get a bargain for £549. Well I'm well pleased anyway. Cheers

I’m very pleased with this product, it is a huge improvement over my previous amps and DACs (AudioEngine N22 Gen 2 and Parasound ZDac/ZAmp). The sound quality is excellent, and the unit just feels solid. It drives my Bowers & Wilkins XT2s and REL T/5x effortlessly. Great with headphones, too. The half width form factor was very important to me; a full width integrated amp would just be too big to place on my computer desk. Highly recommended.

Fantastischer Verstärker im Retro Style der Mission Baureihe aus den 80iger Jahren. Der Verstärker ist sehr wertig gebaut. Haptik, Optik und Verarbeitung sind über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Alle Anschlussmöglichkeiten, die man heute von einem ordentlichen Verstärker erwartet sind gegeben. Der Mission 778 X klingt hervorragend, spielt flott und sauber auf. Eine breite Stereobühne wird geboten. Straffer Bass, sanfte Mitten und seidige Höhen machen Musik hören zum Genuss! Ich kann den Mission 778 X vorbehaltlos empfehlen.

Ho identificato Mission 778x come un possibile candidato alla sostituzione di Rotel RA-940BX, ormai con segni di evidente invecchiamento, per un piccolo impianto con sorgenti PC (CD registrati flac), dac IFI Zen V2 e lettore BlueRay, riprodotti attraverso Dali Zensor 1 (adesso rimpiazzate dalle più performanti KEF Q3 Meta, vedi recensione). L'occasione per concretizzare è arrivata attraverso una promozione con un risparmio significativo. La presenza di differenti connessioni analogiche e digitali permette grande flessibilità di utilizzo, evita di dover ricorrere ad altre elettroniche di interfaccia. La dimensione più stretta consente il posizionamento entro uno scaffale ikea (35 x 35 x 35), aperto posteriormente per l'ingombro dei cavi. Il primo impatto fisico passando da Rotel a Mission è la temperatura in corrispondenza del trasformatore toroidale, molto più bassa nel secondo, ed il volume al contrario, la manopola ore 9 di Rotel corrisponde a poco più di ore 11 su Mission. Nella prova d'ascolto non risultano radicali differenze tranne una migliore capacità di Mission nel rendere la voce e l'accompagnamento, con corpo e presenza, in particolare sulle gamme medio alte risulta evidente la maggiore ricchezza di armoniche e la tonalità più coinvolgente. Giudizio finale molto positivo.

great integrated amp. Phono input is crystal clean and the bluetooth works without a hitch. Heavy duty styling and construction, yet pretty to look at. Waiting for their CD player to come out, which is in the works. Audiophile quality at an entry price point. Really happy with purchase.
