Orson Welles makes his feature-length directorial debut with this classic drama which often tops critics' polls of the best films of all time. In 1940, newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane (Welles) dies after uttering the word 'Rosebud'. An anonymous reporter (William Alland) is assigned the task of uncovering the meaning of Kane's dying word, and in the course of his enquiries he receives varying accounts of his life from former colleagues Jedediah Leland (Joseph Cotten) and Bernstein (Everett Sloan), and ex-wife Susan Alexander (Dorothy Comingore). The film, which Welles also produced and co-wrote, was not-so-loosely based on the life of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Review: Best Film Ever! - Probably the best film ever made!Every film buff should have this in there collection.Well worth the money,I never get tired of this film,Orson Welles was a genius, shame he peaked too soon, but at least we have this.If you don't know what the fuss is about buy it,if you do still worth having. Review: A fine restoration of the movie, but very poor so-called "extras"! - There are many blu-ray editions of this movie and this is one of the cheaper ones. That said, the quality of the restoration is outstanding. What is a huge letdown are the so-called "extras". There is hardly anything included. "Interviews" are only 2/3 minutes long!

THIS IS THE DEFINITIVE VERSION
When a newspaper tycoon dies, everybody is trying to find out what his last word means. This Warner Bros. release is the one to buy! After the abysmal Universal release, which was dire, and one of the worst blu ray transfers ever, this release is superior in every way. There is not a blemish in sight, and all of the problems of the Universal release have gone. Yes it's missing the documentary's of the U.S. release, but the superior quality far outweighs that, and it appears to have the same restored transfer as the one that Warner Bros. released in the U.S. Picture Quality is superb, and has been transferred in it's original aspect ratio of 1.37:1. Sound is in the original mono. If you have the Universal blu ray, and are a fan of this movie, then it is definitely worth buying this version. You won't regret it.

Best film aver made...? Well......!
This film has a great reputation, and there is no doubt that many of the cinematic, directorial, and lighting effects used are highly artistic, and revolutionary for the time. Overall though, the film is just plain....boring! It comes from a totally different age. So different, that it may as well be from another planet. Also, in my opinion, it is not Orson Wells' best film. As a historical piece of moviemaking, it must still stand tall....but it's no longer watchable. I would mention that this film is almost exactly as old as me!

Money well spent
An excellent universal (can be played in any zone/region) Blu-ray DVD of perhaps the best known of Welles' films. A film worth watching more than once the 75th anniversary edition also comes with a slim book about the film and a series of postcards featuring posters, receipts and other collateral from the production which will be of interest to fans of the film and/or Welles. A bargain for the price, I look forward to seeing Welles and the supporting cast bringing to life the character of Kane and the trials and tribulations of his life and his business empire.

Great edition
Beautiful edition. I carefully pulled off the horrible outer sleeve paper that had been attached and it revealed the lovely case underneath. Played the movie briefly and the sound and picture are fantastic. I have seen Kane as the original non blu ray version and this is a huge improvement. The picture is much sharper, with more detail. The sound also seems much better. The improvements only enhance the experience.

Not only is the brushed-up 4K restoration included here, but also a two-hour documentary AND a TV film of the controversy surrounding the film. AND a lovely little booklet AND poster reproductions. Absolutely worth getting, the picture is beautifully polished and crisp.
