Lutron Caseta Smart Claro Accessory Switch for 3 Way, Does Not Work Alone

We love these Lutron smart switches. They are very reliable and come right online after a power outage. We had Leviton smart switches that used WiFi and they would go offline after a power outage and often had to be reset and re-added to the network. These Lutron switches use Radio Frequency to connect with my Lutron hub and that is plugged into the network via an Ethernet connection. We have 20 Lutron smart switches connecting to the Lutron hub, and it can handle more. They also have features like auto-off after a time you set. We use this on the garage interior, pantry, and laundry room lights that were always being left on all night. You can also control if or when the LED indicator is on or off. I have the one in our bedroom turn off when the lights are off.

Just got this set up. Wish the accessory switch was a little bit cheaper, but I love how the look remains consistent with the rest of the switches. Also, the QR code self-guided setup walk me through these steps perfectly.

Installation was easy to do. This is one of the few smart switches that don't require a neutral wire. We have a home built in the 60" so most of the switches don't have neutral wires in the switch boxes. Programing was simple. It's been a year and a half and the switch hasn't had to be reset yet. We previously had a GE smart switch that was constantly losing it's connection and needed to be reprogrammed each time. The only negative is having to use a hub with this switch but luckily I already had a hub for another switch location.

While there are a variety of different Home Automation products, when it comes to quality, professional Lighting Control Lutron provides a great value and range of control options that cover the full spectum of Automation needs.- This particular Switch solves a 3-way Light control where existing wiring can't be abandoned (so you can't simply add a Lutron Wireless Remote wall Switch paired back against the other Wired circuit control Switch).

I ordered 4 switches in Black, but all 4 items were incorrectly relabeled. The original Lutron packaging clearly identifies the color as Brown, but an additional non-original sticker was placed over the box indicating Black. When I opened the packages, the switches inside were actually Brown. I did not receive the color I ordered. All 4 items have the same issue.

Initially, I was hesitant to spend extra on the accessory switches, especially since the Caséta and Diva work fine with traditional dumb switches in a 3-way setup. However, I did encounter a situation where my wiring didn’t match the diagram. Rather than guessing, I reached out to Lutron’s tech support on a Sunday evening, fully expecting to leave a message. To my surprise, I was connected to live, US-based tech support person, who spoke clear English. They quickly walked me through the correct wiring process and even followed up with an email outlining the connections we discussed. They encouraged me to reach out if I had any further questions—a level of service that’s rare these days!Now that every switch in my home is Lutron, I couldn’t be happier. They not only look and feel premium, but they also come with the peace of mind that Lutron’s exceptional customer service is just a call away. Pictured alongside the new accessory switch in the 3-gang box, are the Lutron Aurora dimmer and the standard Lutron dimmer switches, which blend perfectly into the overall aesthetic.If you’re looking for superior quality, ease of installation, and excellent service, I can’t recommend Lutron and their switches highly enough. They’re absolutely worth the investment!

This works as expected with no issues and flawless performance. We paired it with a Lutron Caseta Diva Dimmer in an existing 3-way wiring in our home. It is easy to install and functions great. An accessory switch should be dramatically less deep than the regular switch. This switch protrudes 3cm deep into the box, which is a huge issue for box fill. Given its an accessory and can offload its work to the main switch, they should engineer it with a smaller body.
