Style Extra Large Version by Hanafuda Hawaii

Loves the instruction sheets including yaku sets! Cards double for Japanese Hanafuda and American playing cards, too. Like that it’s Hawaiʻi style…I grew up playing hanafuda with my grandparents on Kauaʻi. Fond memories that can be passed on through the generations & cultures. (Get a deck of the Japanese traditional thick paper pressed deck, too.)

Hubby and I love playing sakura cards, the original small deck. As we aged, the small cards were getting harder to hold. This deck is perfect. The cards are not flimsy, they shuffle well, and are laminated. The pictures are large and beautifully bright. Definitely recommend.

I thought these cards had beautiful art work. I like playing with the classic hard cards because I love the feeling of slamming the cards, LOL! But I've been teaching my kids how to play, and these are easier for them to hold, and also the cheat sheets of the different yakus and how many cards to deal are great!! Kinda of expensive, I'd rather pay less than $10.00. These are nice and fun and I would definitely recommend for anyone from beginners to pros! Except Obachans or Ojisans, as they are probably old school and wouldn't want to play with these! Also, I like that the cards have the points on them, and a little mark to say which yaku they belong to.

These Hanafuda cards are the perfect size and beautiful with their vibrant colors and modern artwork. They are very well made and, being that they are standard playing card size, very easy to shuffle. Directions are well written and very easy to follow. Having each card's point value clearly displayed on the card is another plus! My only recommendation would be that Hanafuda Hawaii should have included the "suits" (month/flower) in English on each card for those of us who don't read Japanese, instead of just displaying the Japanese Kanji. Other than that, my family and I will enjoy many years of playing this fun game with these fantastic cards!

The cards themselves, which is basically the most important thing, are very good quality with beautiful artwork. The indicators in the corners of the cards and the added reference cards makes them very useful for teaching Hanafuda games to new players. I was only familiar with Koi-Koi so it was nice to have rules for the Hawaiian game rules with these cards, providing more usage of the deck with a second game to play. As a westerner I grew up with playing cards made of card stock, so as much I love my traditional Handafuda made of plastic, I'm more accustomed to shuffling thinner flexible cards which makes game play easier and more natural for me with this deck. My one complaint and reason for writing this review is the packaging. I have to give credit where credit is due, everything inside the box is wonderful, but I could not for the life of me open the box. No matter how hard or how long I tried, I could not get the box open on either end. Well, I couldn't get it open in a way that would keep it in tact. Basically I had to destroy the box just to get to the cards inside. I'll have to find a new box to store them in to keep them protected while not being used because I had to resort to ripping the box apart that they came in.

Beautiful and high quality cards. Great texture and pretty art. My husband and I played many games of hanafuda with these cards and they even came with a card which explained different yaku.

Nice large deck

Come with a sweet note which was appreciated. The cards are colorful which displays the flowers nicely and with details that I was not able to pick out on the Hanafuda small Nintendo cards. My family does prefer the colors (lack of actually) on the more original hanafuda cards, but being that one family member is much older, she appreciated the size of these hanafuda cards. It took her time to adjust to knowing the cards as she originally learned them with different names (particularly ones she calls akameshi, suite with boar; and kromechi aka wisteria flowers). But I love the colorful flowers and I'm addicted to the game.
