Awesome watch!!!
Really enjoying my first Garmin watch. It seems just as tough as a G-Shock with lots of information regarding health, fitness, and adventure stuff. Really liking the built in flashlight and comes in handy at work. Not having to charge every night is nice and solar charging is a plus. It has smartwatch capabilities, minus the ability to talk and text back, and has a great MIP display. If you’re looking for a watch that does almost everything and is tough, I highly recommend it.

Best watch for soldiers!
Bought this for my son who is in the Army. He is in basic training/Ait and needed a durable watch for the rigorous training they endure. This watch has all the bells and whistles yet still has the look of a basic black watch so it doesn’t stand out. Very durable and the functionality is quite impressive. My son was so thrilled to get this watch and he was equally impressed with all of the tools available to him in a watch! Highly recommend!

Great midrange watch that is packed with features and won't break the bank.
Rugged and capable watch with an incredible battery life and a ton of features. Upgraded from the garmin instinct tactical edition and what an upgrade it is.

Best one yet
Finally a company developed a large tactical solar watch! This watch has outstanding solar capability, almost completely eliminating the need to charge. Unless you are outside every single day consecutively, you might need to put in on a charge once or twice a month, but otherwise you can live normally and the charge is sufficient. It's features are much like it's predecessors, with a variety of outdoor functions for hiking, exercise, etc. Garmin got it right with this watch, with the XL face as compared to previous models. The menu is easy to navigate, and the main screen is somewhat customizable from several different looks you are able to choose from (positive or negative display). The owners manual is brief, but it's connectivity to the Garmin app allows you many options to use this watch in your daily life, and have significant amount of information about your health and fitness. Even if you just plan to use this watch's features on a limited basis, not using the app at all, it is still worth the purchase.

I love this watch! Great battery life. Lots of features. The flashlight alone sold me.

Good watch, just not the most durable
Great watch, no doubts about it. The watch is large, which is great for my large wrists. It has more features than I could ever learn to use on this Star Trek inspired time piece. I get my notifications nearly instantly so I can ignore the phonies calling all day and, it has a great screen for seeing texts. The light is far more useful than you would ever think, no more stubbing toes at 2 am navigating to the bathroom. But not all is well on your wrist. Previously my wrist companion was a G-Shock H1000, that I abused like a hammer. The gshock was indestructible to nearly being the embodiment of the word. It was torn from my wrist and crushed under a 10,000 lbs car lift during a messy repair. I saw this and thought “oh now that is more civilized.” It is. The battery doesn’t keep the watch at full charge as easily as the gshock did. The buttons are constantly getting pressed by the back of my hand during work, this means you have no idea what it is doing when go to look for the time. This means you will be using the button lock often, and getting irritated when you go to check anything on the watch. The back of your hand will also occasionally unlock the watch by holding down the button too long. Very few will ever abuse a time piece like I do, so it might just be perfect, for everyone else.

Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Tactical
The Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Tactical is a tough, mission‑ready watch that delivers where it counts: ruggedness, extended battery life with solar assist, built‑in flashlight, and essential tactical features. It’s a pragmatic tool rather than a flashy gadget. * Ideal for: Outdoor enthusiasts, military-style users, backcountry explorers, and anyone needing a flashlight, navigation, and long battery life in one rugged package. * Less ideal for: Users seeking colorful AMOLED screens, full smartwatch features, scuba/diving tools, or louder alerts. *****Fantastic purchase for my son who is in the military. *****

The Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch is a standout in the world of multi-functional outdoor timepieces, offering a robust blend of durability, performance, and advanced features. Designed specifically for tactical use, the watch combines Garmin’s renowned solar charging capabilities with an impressive array of tools and features that cater to both professionals and outdoor enthusiasts. Design and Build Quality: The Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch is built to withstand tough environments. The watch boasts a rugged, military-inspired design, with a 51mm fiber-reinforced polymer case that is both lightweight and incredibly durable. The high-resolution, sunlight-readable display is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire glass, ensuring it stays pristine even after heavy use. The silicone strap provides a secure and comfortable fit, even during extended wear in demanding conditions. Solar Charging and Battery Life: One of the most appealing features of the 2X Tactical Solar is its solar charging capabilities. With the solar charging system, the watch extends battery life significantly, allowing you to stay off the grid for longer periods. In full sunlight, it can stay powered for up to 50 days in smartwatch mode, and up to 20 days in GPS mode with solar charging. Even in less optimal lighting conditions, the battery performance is solid, making it ideal for long outdoor expeditions where charging might not be feasible. Tactical Features: True to its name, the Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch is equipped with specialized features for tactical situations. The night vision mode is particularly useful for low-light environments, adjusting the display’s brightness so it doesn’t interfere with night vision goggles. The dual-format GPS (Glonass and Galileo) ensures precise location tracking in remote areas, making it a reliable companion for navigation. The watch also includes jumpmaster and waypoint projection modes, making it suitable for those involved in air operations or military activities. Additionally, the stealth mode disables wireless communication to ensure your movements remain undetected. Health and Fitness Tracking: Beyond its tactical applications, the Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch is also a top-tier fitness tracker. It comes equipped with a heart rate monitor, pulse oximeter, and sleep tracking, allowing users to monitor their overall health during activities. The watch also tracks a variety of sports, including hiking, running, cycling, and swimming, and offers advanced metrics like VO2 max, recovery time, and performance condition. It also supports Garmin’s Body Battery feature, which helps optimize energy levels throughout the day based on your activity and stress levels. User Interface and Software: The watch runs on Garmin’s intuitive interface, with a responsive touchscreen and five-button control system that provides easy access to all features, even with gloves on. The menus are well-organized, and the watch allows customization for quick access to your most-used functions. Garmin’s Connect app further enhances the experience by allowing you to sync data, track your progress, and join the Garmin fitness community. Cons: Despite its many strengths, the Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch does come with a few drawbacks. For one, its size might be too large for those with smaller wrists, as the 51mm case can feel bulky and heavy. Also, while the solar charging is a great feature, it can take time to fully charge in low-light conditions, requiring optimal sunlight for the fastest recharging. Lastly, while it excels in tactical and outdoor features, some users may find the watch’s interface and complexity a bit overwhelming if they are only looking for a simple timepiece. Conclusion: Overall, the Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch is a top-tier timepiece designed for those who need rugged durability, solar-powered longevity, and advanced tactical features. Whether you're a professional in the field, an outdoor enthusiast, or someone who simply demands a reliable watch for extreme conditions, the Garmin 2X Tactical Solar Watch delivers. Its combination of performance, battery life, and specialized features makes it a solid investment for anyone who spends time in demanding environments.

First-Day Review Note: I’m wearing this casually, not as a pro hiker, military personnel, or anything like that. The Good 1. Despite its large size, it’s light and comfortable to wear. 2. Simple interface—within two minutes of clicking buttons, you’ll figure it out without a manual. • Holding the Ctrl (Light) button gives quick access to useful features like pay, torch, battery saver, find phone, music control, etc.—very handy. 3. Seamless connection to the app. 4. Highly customizable—faces, settings, and pretty much everything can be adjusted easily. 5. Rugged, comfortable, long battery life—everything advertised seems accurate. 6. Garmin Pay works. If it glitches, delete the card in the app and restart the app. 7. Find My Phone feature is surprisingly useful. 8. Battery life (again) and solar recharge—both live up to expectations. The Meh 1. Step tracking – Reacts to hand movement like Android phones and basic fitness trackers. Unlike Apple products, it doesn’t adjust based on actual movement. • Example: While sitting and drinking coffee, my watch said I walked 23 steps. After writing this review, it’s now 69. 2. Weather updates – Only available via phone, not radio signal, so no standalone weather tracking. • Bonus meh: If weather data glitches, turn location services off and on in the app, then refresh on the watch. 3. Custom faces require another Garmin app, which doesn’t offer much. You’re better off customizing the pre-installed faces. 4. The watch can act as a USB device (as seen in the app), but you can’t store or play music directly on it.
