This ferro rod set is excellent for the money. I mean a four peice ferro rod set for sub $20 is almost unheard of these days. Combined that with the fact that these aren't just miniscule unusable ferro rods that you normally see at this price point and you've got a winner. Great for preparedness and bushcrafting on a budget and you'll never sacrifice quality when making this purchase. I do prefer a ferro rod in the 5 - 6 inch long range with a 1/2 inch diameter, but with that being said these are great for a back up set or your main rod. Don't forget this kit has four rods, which means you can set up multiple kits with some uniformity. The rods come in at around 4 inches in length and roughly 3/8 diameter, so you know these ferro rods ain't no slouch. The strikers are typical design which gets the job done but could be a bit better. By the way, don't forget each rod comes equipped with paracord and a loud survival whistle. No fire is too big or too small for this champion. Start fires like a boss and take a chance on this kit!

My family have been watching a survival TV show lately and many of the survivalists are using or attempting to use Ferro rods for starting fires. One person on the show was having a particularly hard time getting fire started, even over the course of several days. In my house we agreed it can't be "that hard" and had to find out for ourselves. This 4 pack is a great value which is primarily why I went with these over the many others. We gathered up some dry grass and started striking. The sparks generated are very bright. It took a few minutes but before long two of us were successful in starting fires. These aren't easy per se, but also not impossible. The tinder available will certainly have a large impact.

Get these for me and the kids to practice for camping trips and overall survival skills. Works great and even my youngest (7) was able to get a fire going.

Not as soft as id like but its decent for the price. The striker actually works well I was surprised.
