does this work with a high pressure system?

This requires high pressure and will work from 1-5 bar

is the hose connection a universal fitting? the screw thread looks a bit short.

The hose connection is a traditional 1/2 inch threaded male connection and most standard hoses sold in the UK will fit it.

How does the water reach the temperature required, is it cold to start and get hotter as the lever is moves?

It is a mixer tap so full left is hot, full right cold and you rotate it for the desired temperatures.

Will this shower work if my hot and cold feed are the wrong way round so hot on the right cold on the left?

I am not a plumber but fitted one of these mixers a while ago. It was a replacement for a thermostatic one that wasn’t working right. My hot and cold were the right way round but I cannot see why it shouldn’t work with them reversed as there is no thermostatic bits inside, it’s purely a mixer. You would find the red and blue indicators for hot and cold would be the wrong way about though, could be nasty for anybody unfamiliar with the shower!!!
