Dated, but still well worth owning
For some of us "how to draw" books were hard to come by in our younger days. Back in my childhood the only inexpensive instruction books were the large format Walter Foster prints that could be had for $3 or so at the local department stores. The Andrew Loomis hand and head books were rare as hen's teeth and grabbed them whenever I could (even if it meant I couldn't buy a G.I Joe that month). I still own 3 of those Loomis/Foster books and treasure them highly. This book contains everything in those volumes as well as much that was considered too risqué for a family friendly art department. Though Loomis' work can come across as dated, the basics still apply and the "Loomis Method" is still considered one of the best and most adaptable drafting systems within the art community. Loomis was big on showing that ANYONE can draw with the proper for of instruction, he empowered artists of all ages and his work deserves to be more well known outside of the art community. This is a beautiful hardback copy at a magnificent price and could easily serve as the only instruction book an aspiring artist needs

This book is a real help for artists wannabes.
What a nice go-to book for artists. I love the way it's so free spirit with so many tips and various problems being addressed in ways we all have to learn, if we want to master this very difficult art.

A work of art :D
As an aspiring professional artist, I bought this book in admiration of Loomis' art and method. I was excited when it arrived on time and at first glance, just by the pictures, it broke so much down for me I didn't understand by YouTube tutorials before. Truly a masterpiece, will be using this a bunch! <3

Avoid the Kindle Version!
The book itself is excellent. Lots of great information on how to draw the human face. It's from the 1940s, so the illustrations have a beautiful vintage look to them. If you want to get the printed version, it's a good investment. However . . . the Kindle version is a joke. It's actually a scanned version of someone's personal copy, complete with underlining! Not only that, but every page is an image, which you have to click on to view full-sized! It's absolutely horrible. I saw another Kindle version of this book (even cheaper) and it got pulled, I believe, because of complaints about it being a scanned copy of someone's used book. So I bought this one instead, but it's exactly the same! Unbelievable. I was a bit surprised that the Kindle edition was so much cheaper than the hardback copy, but apparently it's true---you get what you pay for. Now we know why it's so cheap! If you want to learn how to draw faces and hands, don't waste your money on the Kindle version. Save up for the actual book, which is a gem. I'm giving this four stars, because I don't believe it's fair to bring the entire book's rating down based on the moronic Kindle edition. But Amazon seriously needs to look into this.

Practical and instructive
I’m really enjoying this book. Probably a 1/3 of the way through and find this a relaxing way to spend the evening. I’m learning a ton about construction of the head. I feel like this was a good purchase and would be happy to buy another one of his books. Update; halfway through the book and feel like I’ve learned so much. If you’re wanting to learn the Loomis method, might as well learn if from Loomis. Worth the money and effort.

Among the best available!
Loomis is really a "must have" for anyone inclined toward an artistic pursuit. While there are pdf files available online, these are far superior in quality, usability and durability. In an era of digital, I'm thrilled to find these superb resources! My thanks to the publisher...I've already pre-ordered the next in line. Now, for the actual content...for those that are not familiar with Loomis, do yourself a favor and review his work FIRST. I've purchased many different tutorials but by far, Loomis is the best. His explanations are readable, engaging and pertinent. Examples are detailed yet not overwhelming. Trouble-shooting always seems to be right on target. Best of all, his understanding of the body is unsurpassed! The information on Head and Hands builds upon that of the general works. Originally I waivered on whether or not this was needed since there is some discussion in other works...due to the superb detailed instruction, I opted to purchase this and very glad I did so! While many topics are fine for digital, this is one area where print really makes a difference.

Everything I've been looking for in a book!
It's so hard to find a book that isn't either appealing too much to beginners or assuming you've taken years of classes in order to progress. This book, however, has been everything I've been looking for. Very thorough from the start and although it can be somewhat confusing at times just keep at it and eventually things will start to click. I highly recommend reading all that the author (Andrew Loomis) has to say. He reaches out to the artist to speak some words of wisdom or encouragement that isn't acknowledged in any other book I've found and you can tell he's lived the life of an artist and the struggles that come with it. Overall, my skill in drawing heads has improved and things I use to get frustrated over now seem like a fun map to lay out
