Best fresh water reel I’ve used.
Think I found my new favorite reel. Very smooth action. Quality feel. And a great price tag. This is my first Okuma reel and I am not disappointed in anything. Drag quality is superior. I put 10lb braid and it’s awesome. Snagged a trout first cast and it was smooth as silk. I’ve never had a reel feel like this one. Makes me want to change out my other sizes to the ceymar series or if Okuma as other id like to give them a try

Absolutely amazing. Color is beautiful and the weight is light and definitely durable. The drag settings are great. Super smooth reel and I can easy feel my lure spinning and do not feel the reel bearing or anything. I can catch blue gill all the way up to 20inch trout on it. Definitely buying another if I loose or break it.

Fantastic reels for ultralight fishing.
I bought both the 2000 and 500 size Ceymar A reels. They look great, and are incredibly smooth while reeling. The drag on both is very smooth, and both cast very well. I really appreciate the robust bale wire on the Ceymar reels. So far, these are outperforming my other reels. I’m using both of these for ultralight fishing, and wish I’d tried them out earlier- could have saved myself from buying the reels that these ultimately replaced. I would definitely recommend the 500 and 2000 Ceymar A reels as a first reel for ultralight fishing. I’m beyond impressed with mine.

Good reel, worth the money.
I bought this reel for a light powered crappie rod. This is my first Okuma reel and at first I wasn’t impressed. Out of the box I could feel the gears as I cranked it and I don’t like that at all. But I opened it up and added some Super Lube grease to the gears and that took care of the problem completely. One tip doing this, the nut holding the rotor on is LEFT HAND THREADED. This means turn it to the right to loosen it, which is backwards from what is normal. Another slight issue. I can feel a tick in the bearings as I crank it. Not terrible, but it is there. Just a little tiny catch as I wind in a bait, and not even all the time. Feels like maybe one ball bearing has a nick in the surface of one internal ball. Or maybe it is from some slight contact of internal parts as they move. Not really sure what it is. I ordered a second reel to see if it was any better but it wasn’t. So I just kept the first one and returned the second one. I’ve now used this reel for most of the summer and I do enjoy it despite the two issues I had with it. Those are just my personal hangups. They don’t affect its fishability at all. It also seems the more I use it the more it smooths out. Or maybe I’m just getting used to it. But for under $50 I don’t want to beat up on it too much in the review. I like it well enough that I’d probably buy another one. I’m actually planning on getting a smaller version for an ultralight rod. What I do like about it is, first it’s sharp looking! Love the colors! But it is also well built, with an oversized bail wire and robust frame that doesn’t flex. It has a smooth drag that can handle some decent sized fish (landed an 18” catfish on 4 pound line with it). The drag sound is crisp as well, plenty loud enough to hear as the line peels off the reel under load, and it has that ringing bell sound of metal on metal. This reel seems perfectly matched with 4 pound line. Holds plenty of line and casts like a dream with baits as light as 1/32 and up to 1/4 ounce. I tried it on two different light powered rods, one 6’ and one 7’, both rods with very different actions, and casting results were very good on both. I currently have it paired with the 7’ light powered B’n’M Sam Heaton Super Sensitive rod, and this is an excellent crappie and panfish combo! Probably would do well for trout as well, and is even a bunch of fun for bass too. The reel does crank smoothly also, even with the tick I described above. It doesn’t have a resistive feel like some reels do that makes them feel like they’re full of peanut butter inside. This one has that “rolling on glass” feel as it is cranked. I like that it has a metal handle with rubber grip knob. It also has an anti-reverse switch which I do use and hate to see that other reel makers are starting to remove this feature. Okuma still has it. So inspite of the issues I had with it, I do like and recommend it. It’s a good value for the money. I’ll be buying more.

Great reel for novice and amateur anglers
Great reel for the price. Mid range entry reel, might be worth going up a price point if you are looking for heavy use, but for me it works great.
