Is it normal to hear a hiss from the amplifier?

Yes. It is the nature of the amplifier to hear a hiss when sat idle.

What's the right sized amp for me?

Smaller Amps (MG10 and MG15) are ideal for home practice and keeping things simple — perfect for new players. Mid-range Amps (MG30 and MG50) offer more flexibility for jamming and experimenting with sound with built-in effects.
