Can you unscrew with this tool or only tighten?

Only tighten, the manufacturer advises against turning it the other way as it may damage the parts that give you the torque settings

Can anyone tell me what the differance is between the park tool atd 1.2 and the atd 1?

The difference is the v1.2 has a knurled knob that you can select the torque rating. The v1 has selectable torque, but requires a hex key to change, making it a little less convenient. They are both great, and feel like they will last a lifetime because of the weight, but I went with the 1.2 just for that little extra convenience.
