Excellent boots for beginners...good support
Excellent Skates for a beginner, great support around the ankles. recommended to be sharpened (usually at ice rink), my son aged 11/12 is a clarks size 5 1/2 (adult sizing) E width, these are slightly to big at a 6 as would be expected, but with a thick ski sock they are very comfortable for him giving the right support. I am a 5 1/2 popped them on and they were very comfortable with a little spare room for toes obviously being an adult my foot is slightly wider than my sons. Hope this gives you a good guide. These look leather (not like the plastic ones in the ice rink) and after a few lessons he will get used to them (skaters have to get used to new boots, so if they are not as good at skating for a couple of weeks, the change of boots does affect performance - so a few practice sessions might be good.

Good first skates
I was aware that these are on the lower end of the scale for quality but I didn't want to spend £200 on a pair of skates that my daughter will grow out of in 6 months and probably get bored of skating (when she realises how hard it is!). I got the blades sharpened and so far they are doing well. My daughter has used them about 6 times. We're still playing about with getting the laces right in terms of being tight enough around the ankle but soft enough around the leg to allow her to bend. We bought some skate tape which was so worth it otherwise they'd be scuffed up already. My daughter reports that they are really comfortable, so much more than hire skates which she couldn't bear.

Great value. Order down from shoe size.
Super value skates. My son is 9.5 shoe size, so ordered size 9 skate but it was too large. Returned and ordered a size 8, which was great. So I’d recommend dropping 1.5 from your shoe size. Would also suggest getting the blades sharpened as they didn’t feel like they had much edge. The returns process worked well.

Fantastic skates
Fantastic skates, bought for daughters birthday. Bought the next size up as she is a 5 and I'm so glad I did! The 6 are a perfect fit! They come with a blade cover that is very thin and will do till you purchase proper blade guards. She said they are much more comfortable and miles lighter than the hire ones at the rink. She is not a professional, just likes skating for a hobby with friends etc so they are perfect! The blades do come sharpened, but even my local rink said after 2-3 sessions on the ice they recommend they would have to be sharpened as the factory grinding isn't quite the same standard as the ones in the rinks.

Beginners only not for jumps and spins
Like most parents I don’t want to spend a fortune on boots my child will grow out of quickly. Being as she is 12 and the same size as me in shoeS if she outgrows then I can use them recreationally. These are a great boot for a beginner or those starting lessons. Boots are a great fit. These are not for seasoned figure skaters or when moving to jumps and spins as the boot is softer material and will not offer as much support as boots that are more rigid materials designed to take the impact of such jumps and spins. I have bought these for my daughter Who’s doing basic moves such as glides until she moves to jumps. Great price For a basic boot and building confidence and control on the ice in the meantime. Well worth the money.

Professional? No. Recreational? Yes!
If you are looking to take skating lessons or plan to skate regularly, please save your money and put it towards better skates. These ones won’t last! These skates don’t come sharpened, no new skates do. So I took them to my local skate shop to be examined by a professional and he concluded that they weren’t even worth having sharpened. They would last no more than 6 months of regular use, the boot is too soft and won’t give enough support, the blade barely has any curve, and they are certainly not safe for jumps. For double the price, I bought a proper pair of skates that will last a good two years and are safe for doing jumps. I would advise anyone else to do the same. Please don’t compromise on good quality, even if it means spending a bit more money! However, if you want a cheaper pair of skates to knock around in or want beginner skates for a child, these should be fine. Just keep in mind that skates should be a tight fit, usually a size below your regular shoe size. They will loosen and shape to your feet as you break them in. I am a UK 5 so I ordered a 38 and while the skates felt comfortable to wear, the professional at the skate shop said they are too big for me. My ice hockey skates are a UK 3.5 and my new figure skates are now a 37. Buying the right size is important as it will affect how easily you can skate! In the end, I was able to send these back for a full refund which is good, despite the fact it took a few weeks to process.
