Greetings, Sorry for the delay in my response. In answer to your question, if you are using one of our speakers in the 5.0 series you just need to hold the plus button down for a couple of seconds. (The plus and minus buttons function for both volume and track selection.) I hope this answers your question. How and what do i need to play this for the shelter dogs? Want to donate it but they newd to be able to play it. What do i need to play this?

You can purchase a micro SD card reader to plug into a laptop USB port and play the sound card. Most laptops have a card reader that works with bigger cards that won't work with these tiny micro SD sound cards.
