A correction needs to be made to Adry's post. Jesus is simply how the name Jesus (Yeshua) in Hebrew was transliterated into Greek (Iesous) by the Apostles and Evangelists when they wrote the New Testament itself. Since Hebrew has sounds that the Greek and Latin languages do not - specifically the sh sound - and particular grammar rules for how nouns including proper nouns like names are incorporated into the language, Jesus is the best approximation they could come up with. The Greek Iesous passed into the Latin Iesus and eventually into English as Jesus. There was absolutely no idea of disrespecting Jesus since that name was the translation chosen by his closest followers - most if not all of whom were Jews themselves - as they were writing tg Gospela and letters in the common tongue of the day - specifically Greek.
