This speaker, despite its small frame, puts out HUGE sound! Not just loud, but accurate, clear, and punchy audio! The unit is fairly lightweight, but feels solid and durable. The two-input mixer section on the back is super handy and is compatible with XLR, 1/4", and RCA connections, which is something you don't see in most units of this price. The 7-year manufacturer warranty is a real bonus, as I recently had a speaker from a lesser brand quit on me after 2.5 years. Vocals are pristine and I feel that this speaker would perform well as a monitor for live performance, or as a pair of main speakers for smaller crowds of 100-200 people when paired with a sub. It has great bass response for a 12" when on the FOH/Main setting, but it will not produce heavy hitting lows required for the dancefloor. My DJ company will be using this speaker as a monitor until we purchase the 10" model, as the 12" is a lot of sound for a monitor. We then plan to use a pair of 12s as main speakers with a sub at a 209 person capacity lounge. If you are planning on using a pair of these without a sub, you would be better off going with the 15" model. The unit was packaged remarkably well and arrived without so much as a scuff on the box!

The sound quality is good and I recommend it to anyone that like good sounds.

I bought these sight unseen (ear unheard) based on reviews I've seen here and elsewhere. I'm glad I did. They look great, sound great, and seem pretty durable. The Contour mode makes them applicable for monitor of FOH use, and the FOH mode really extends the low end. DJ's would likely want to add a sub for extra oomph, but I would happily use these on their own for any group without a kick drum. The fan in them is almost inaudible, and the overall tone is very balanced, not too shrill/harsh or too boomy. Great job on these ones, Yamaha.
