Nice for beginners but....
It is a really nice book, pretty didactic with a lot of pictures. Excellent for beginners and intermediate level. If you have been practising Aikido for a long time it may be not too helpful. But I believe that if you are into Aikido you will like to have this excellent reference book anyway.

Not the best book I've seen on aikido but the writing is OK on the subject and i found the photos not of a clear quality or detailed enough in order to learn the techniques and execute them which could have been made easier to follow and understand by clear pictures. It is a good read though in a good quality hardback format and for someone new to aikido looking for more information on the art but personally I find the dynamic sphere of aikido and the dytorue of aikido better books on this beautiful and graceful martial art.

Progressive Aikido
This is a good book for the beginner and although has some ideas from Best Aikido 1 & 2, it also follows on very nicely from what those have to teach. It answers most questions and demonstrates the fundemental techniques. It is one to refer back to after/or just before a class. I recommend the first part, as well as the second installment of Best Aikido, they are both as good as this and combined make and excellent aikido reference. Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

good pictures, descriptions. practice with another person is best. This helps to understand techniques.

Ein sehr gutes Buch für die Jenigen die neben dem regelmäßigen Training einige Details auf Bildern als hilfreich betrachten. Mir hilft es immer solche Detail einmal Bild für Bild zu sehen

Not quite an updated book from Doshu's previous Best Aikido book. Doshu provides explanations for each aspect of Aikido practice from philosophy to movement and techniques. I found the book useful in my reflections of Aikido practice and how best to convey it to my students. A systematic book that is very useful for students starting out on their Aikido journey. Don't expect it, or any book on Aikido, to be totally comprehensive that covers everything. The vastness of Aikido practice makes that virtually impossible and can only be experienced during actual practice in the Dojo.

If you are a practicing aikidoist, this would make a great coffee table book. I'm not saying that in a bad way. It's good to pick up a book like this once in a while just to study the pictures for something you may have missed in a class that sometimes moves pretty fast. Mr Ueshiba is very, very knowledgable of his art and shows you what he can in just such a book. I highly reccommend it.

Excellent book on akido fundamentals, of course Ueshiba related to O' sensi gives great background of the art and the diagrams and pictures are very well detailed. Highly recommend for the beginner and intermediate.
