Install wasn't too bad. The printed instructions are easy enough to follow. Boot time is also not too bad (around 10 seconds). The one major issue I have with it is that the sound quality is awful. This unit doesn't seem to be able to handle bass, even at low volume. I tried playing multiple different genres, but be it Metal, Rap, Wave or Phonk, the sound always comes out really garbled and distorted. I usually read files from a USB stick I have plugged in at all times, so I gave the Bluetooth a shot, to see if it would change anything, but it made no difference. A shame because it otherwise has a beautiful display and does in fact, still let you use iDrive by holding the Menu button for 3 seconds. Lastly, audio completely cuts out whenever I shift into reverse. Not a huge deal, but I would have preferred for the music to keep playing as I don't really need to listen to the parking sensors/can turn the volume down if need be.

Works better than expected! Positives: - Linux OS boots up quickly when you start the car - Steering wheel buttons and iDrive knob works well to control interface (helpful since touch screen can be a bit hard to reach while driving) Installation issues: 1. Did not need AUX cable, did not need to route it to the aux port on my 2008 535xi 2. Very annoying trying to tuck to the extra wiring harness behind the radio... make sure to tuck it into the bottom left area behind the radio (before sliding the radio back in) Quality: 1. Audio quality for music is very good 2. Built-in microphone works well for Siri commands 3. A bit of "echo" for phone calls via Carplay (I am still paired to the car's bluetooth for phone calls through the vehicle's microphone) Overall, totally worth the money. I didn't use the old screen for anything, makes my car feel much more modern having Carplay built-in. My only issue is a little bit of echo during phone calls... I'm still using the car's bluetooth and that works well enough.
