Geronimo was born in 1829 in Arizona. Because of his bravery, skill and determination, he rose to be a leader of the Chiricahuas and raided many settlements. He was captured by General Cook and put on a reservation from which he escaped in 1876. In 1886, the General brought Geronimo to a meeting and promised to resettle his people in Florida, if they would give up fighting. The Indians escaped en-route and it took another 18 months to capture Geronimo and his people. The campaign engaged over 5.000 men to catch a band of Indians numbering 35 men, 8 boys and 100 women. Geronimo lived at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, until his death in 1909. Before dying, he dictated “Geronimo’s Story of his Life”.
