Medela SoftfeederTM Sterile - Medela 6100018S

My 3 month old daughter has a posterior tongue tie and lip tie. She latches decently to the breast but cannot figure the bottle out. We've tried almost every bottle brand without success even preemie bottles. I've recently returned to work while my husband stays with her and she will go a full 8 hours without eating anything. We thought if she was hungry enough she would eventually eat but that has not been the case, she screams and pulls away from the bottle the only success we had was with a medicine syringe. I finally found this product and although expensive, decided to chance it. She took it right away and downed 4 oz. The instructions were easy to follow and I had no issues with it leaking. It takes a bit to figure out the right technique to use it, some milk does dribble when she's lapping. It's essentially like feeding a baby from a giant silicone spoon so I anticipated it to be somewhat messy. The mouth piece is very soft and flexible, more so than most baby bottles. I found that sitting her upright facing me in a bumbo-type seat and using a large burp cloth to drape over her with my hand holding her arms down was the best technique. Making sure to feed her while she is calm and not starving makes a big difference. I push the mouth piece down on her lower lip under her tongue and she laps the milk, she has gotten so good at it she now can slurp from it. I would really recommend giving this product a try if your struggling with bottle feeding.

I had to go back to work and my baby simply did not take a bottle. She just couldn't latch on properly or long enough to drink from the bottle. Sometimes she'd get angry that we tried to stick a bottle in her mouth. We tried *everything* - different people offering the bottle, different bottles (even spent $15 on the comotomo), different locations and position, etc. We realized that she seems ok with lapping up the milk like a cat / gently pouring the milk into her mouth from a spoon. And then we found this amazing thing, which is like a spoon/cup. After about 5 or 6 uses, she has become quite comfortable with the Softfeeder and she now regularly drinks EBM from it. Both caregiver and daddy find it easy to use. The only thing is that it's expensive - but it is worth it. And, the bottle it comes with only takes 2.5 ounces, probably because it's meant more for newborns than infants, but I believe you can screw a regular medela bottle into the feeder. This is a great device. My son took bottles from 3 weeks to 10 and then flat out refused. I went back to work after 12 weeks and we thought surely he would take one once he got hungry enough, but it was as if he forgot how. We tried 9 different ones and he just wouldn't latch on to them. He played with them in his mouth and chewed on the nipple. This was the only device that got milk in him while we tried to encourage him to take a bottle. The bottle is certainly preferable, but this saved our sanity. We continued to offer the bottle first for each feeding and then switched to this. Eventually he took the bottle. I was so glad to have found this in the interim. Aden and Anais burpy bibs are also perfect to use with it. They snap around the baby's neck and are very soft while also being large enough to handle any spills while you get used to how this works. Very convenient that it is compatible with the medela bottles I pump into, as well.

Not sure if my bottle came defective, but after the second use it stopped working, stopped dripping. I am home with newborn and won’t be able to return it plus it’s already been used. Think twice before you buy it, great concept, but doesn’t work.

The product does the job, helped a lot to quit bottles and get going with breastfeeding. Only issue is the white valve part which is very annoying. It is either blocking the milk or pour a lot, now using without that part. And be careful since it sometimes leaks.

We tried everything. Every bottle on the market honesty. The doidy cup worked but it was messy so we could only feed him in a seat with a bib. This is what worked for us. I would suggest trying a soft cup from your cabinet first before spending the money because it is pricey. If your baby seem to enjoy the cup this feeder might just be the trick. It is a bottle in the sense that you can feed pretty normally without making to much of a mess but you baby may not reject it because it fits their mouth like a cup and not like a nipple. Every baby is different but if you have to return to work and are as desperate as I was this is worth a try. Good luck!

This didn't work well for my 3 month old who is refusing a bottle. The mouthpiece was tiny, awkward, and slow going. However, I think it would be perfect for a newborn who chokes easily. Instead, the Ameda baby cups worked well for us - they are just the right size for a 3 month old and they are see through so you can see what's going on. The Doidy cup is too big and opaque. Another alternative is squirting the milk in her mouth from a Comotomo bottle. If I sit her back up against my thighs she'll accept this.

This is an amazing product. Like others who have posted reviews, our baby refused every different bottle that we offerred. He would scream and generally refuse to eat from all of them. On one of the worst days, he refused to eat for about 7.5 hours while mom was at work. Out of desperation, we tried feeding him from a small baby spoon and it worked! He would laugh and giggle when eating from the spoon; however, he seemed to get frustrated that it was such as small amount and he wouldn't eat as much as he otherwise would. Then, we found this wonderful device and have used it successfully for 3 days now. He is eating much more than he did with the spoon. Also, our daycare provider says that it is easy to use. I agree, it is easy to use and easy to clean. If your baby likes the spoon- I would say it would be well worth your time and money to try the softfeeder!

My daughter does not take the bottle but I needed something for her to take my milk in (when I'm not around), the medela softfeeder has been a success so far. Easy to use, avoids nipple confusion and easy to clean. I definitely recommend it.

Excellent choice. I would recommend it to anyone.
