EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40 Face Sunscreen Moisturizer

I've been using this sunscreen moisturizer for years now and absolutely love it. It's easily become part of my daily routine. The tint blends well and I like that it helps balance out my complexion without feeling heavy like makeup does sometimes. It's very lightweight and doesn't make my skin greasy but still gives the perfect amount of coverage with the tint. I also have acne-prone, oily skin and it's been the only sunscreen to not break me out. I don't love the way it wears under makeup but thankfully I don't wear makeup too often. It's a bit pricier compared to some drugstore options but if you need a lightweight sunscreen and want a little tint, I'd definitely recommend trying this product!

I really liked this but even when I was very careful not to get any in my eyes it still bothered them. This is due to octinoxate, which is a chemical uv filter. So if you have sensitive eyes you might want to consider a product that only uses mineral sunscreen. I still give it 5 stars — they don’t hide the fact it has octinoxate, I just didn’t know I was sensitive to that. It feels weightless and has a silky texture. It applies easily and covers well.

My review is for the following three SPF tints. To compare them fairly, I applied one brand on half of my face and another brand on the other half, wore them all day, and then repeated the process with the “winner” against the next product. After testing all three, my top choice was Elta MD. Second place was Healthy Skin Lab, and third was Vibriance. I have oily/combination skin with a light to medium‑light tone. I’m not acne‑prone, but the wrong product can still break me out. Vibriance came in last for me because it felt too oily. It didn’t give a glass‑skin glow—it made me look tired within minutes, and that never improved throughout the day. It just didn’t flatter my skin. Healthy Skin Lab performed better. It was dewy and shiny, not as oily as Vibriance, but it still made me look a bit tired. It also had a very slight white/sunblock cast. I only noticed it because I was wearing it side‑by‑side with another product. It did cover redness a little better than the other two, but that was mainly because of the white cast, and I personally don’t like that pale sunblock look. Elta MD was the clear winner. It wasn’t oily, but it gave a dewy, glowing finish that looked fresh all day. No tired look, no white cast—just natural, healthy‑looking skin. It didn’t cover the redness around my nose, but I loved the overall effect: fresh, natural, glowing, moisturized, but not greasy. All three products are very light in coverage—almost no coverage at all—so don’t expect foundation‑level results. If you need real coverage, none of these will work. But if you want a natural tint with a skin‑like finish, Elta MD was my #1 out of the three. I may try more brands in the future, but for now, Elta MD gave me exactly what I was hoping for. I took one star off only because I wish it had a bit more coverage, but honestly, it’s still pretty perfect as it is. Hope this helps!

This sunscreen has been wonderful! I have never applied a daily SPF to my face before, though I have heard you really should. I used to be super lazy about my skincare routine. Well, I am 26 now and trying to take it more seriously to combat signs of aging. Naturally, I sought an SPF I could wear daily. While I don’t have other products I could compare this to, it feels wonderful on my skin. The product is tinted a little dark for my fair skin, but one pump covers my face and neck and blends well. It was important to me that the sunscreen was mineral based, so I appreciate the tint to avoid a white cast on my skin. It also layers well under makeup. I have put this on in the morning or afternoon before laying out in the sun by the pool for hours, and my face has not burned once this summer. I also have worn it to the zoo, and reapplied it once or twice to save my skin from burning. It works wonderfully! It does not have much of a smell that I notice, which I appreciate. I was using a face setting spray that had SPF in it, and the sunscreen smell lingered in my nose for much longer than I was comfortable with. I don’t want to smell like a can of sunscreen! I feel like in combination with my vitamin C serum and moisturizer, my skin stays feeling clean and very moisturized with this product. I didn’t realize when I bought this product that it also has hyaluronic acid in it. I feel like it is super moisturizing. I tend to get a lot of breakouts and have sensitivity issues with some skincare products, but I haven’t had a problem with this sunscreen irritating my skin or feeling like it’s clogging up my pores. If you are on the fence about this product, just try it! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I am only going to switch to another product because it’s just too expensive for me to justify right now. I’m not excited about taking this one out of my lineup. A fun fact about mineral based sunscreens - they don’t degrade in the sun the same way that chemical ones do, so in theory, they can last much longer. However, they are prone to dissolving in skin oils or being rubbed off from touching your face, so it is important to reapply.
