Problem solved--2 years and counting
Repeat customer here. A couple years ago I solved a recurring problem with phoebes building their nasty nest in the corners of my front porch. Nothing had worked until I installed these simple filaments. Two years later the filaments are still in place but no more phoebes. I just bought some more to deter them from a new location: above an exterior light. The perfect product: it's cheap, it's simple, and it works! I cannot speak to its use with swallows or bats.

Safe Effective Deterrent for Swallows
We have barn swallows that like to build nests under our eaves and around our porch support posts. For the most part we enjoy having them there to help keep down the insect population. They are aerial insectivores, catching their prey while flying. This includes a variety of insects such as flies, beetles, wasps, wild bees, winged ants. They also consume moths, damselflies, grasshoppers, and other insects, as well as some spiders and snails. However, they also like to attempt to expand their neighborhood every spring by adding new nests. And that is where we draw the line. We have found that these strips of plastic with clear monofilament line and an adhesive surface to attach them have proven to be very effective at limiting their expansion to unwanted areas of our porch. They effectively prevent them from landing on the parts of the porch we want to keep clear by confusing them when their wings hit the clear lines hanging down about 10 inches from the surface. In order to build their mud and grass nests, they need to be able to land to build the nest. I can highly recommend them as a natural, non-harmful, effective way to control access to areas you want to protect from them building upon. The strips are very durable and the stickiness of the adhesive they use is very good, having survived the heat and cold of central Texas for over 3 years since we started using them. This makes them a very good value for the money in my opinion.

Save your money
I bought 10 of these hoping to deter barn swallows from nesting in our barn above the horses and their water buckets. They kept the swallows away for 2 days. Now theyโve all nested right under these and have even incorporated the strings into their nests. Itโs a good idea in theory but did not work for us. We are taking them down and installing bird netting.

Excellent but there can be no gap between string curtain and wall
These work and is the only thing I have found that does! Very Important: You MUST NOT leave even a small gap between the strings and where you want to block. They began building a nest behind it. THERE IS A SOLUTION. I solved this problem (I have trim thatโs an issue) by having one on the ceiling hanging down and another sideways to get behind it in the side in favored spots. I used tacks to put up to avoid any paint problems Also allows easy repositioning and reuse. I will post a picture. The 4 stars is because the instructions donโt tell you about not leaving a gap behind the curtain of strings and the wall. Otherwise, highly recommend.

Works wonderfully!!!
I was skeptical about these from previous reviews but they have worked great for me. I live on the third floor of my apartment building and have a big balcony. I put one in each corner of the ceiling and they hate these things. The swallows fly in and get flustered by the strings hanging down and leave instantly. It was easy to install and maintain.

Seems to work
I bought tons of products to deter swallows and this one seems to be the only one that is working. I bought two packs and hung them above window and door ledges. The swallows will not land on the ledges with these there. There are still landing and rebuilding nests everywhere else where this product was not installed but where we hung these they are not landing. So the product (the strings) really are deterring them. But it only works where you have it of course. Very simple easy install, just peel off and stick up, very thick double sided tape that looks like itโll hold awhile. They are very short in width so we had to use 4 per window or door. Would be nice if they were wider or had more in a pack. Would also be helpful if they made different lengths, these are very short. So it does work where you have them but nowhere else.

Best Solution!
We have tried everything to get the barn swallows to stop making a nest on our front porch - tin foil strips, rubber snakes...everything suggested. I ordered two of these and no birds! You cannot see them either. Highly recommend!

Works well.
Works well. Keeps the birds from getting on the surface you don't want them on. You can't put your fingers on it, afterwards. Gloves is necesssary when you're doing it. The stuff is really sticky.

Fantastic product
This product is almost invisible when installed. It completely deterred cliff swallow from nesting under our roof peaks. Yes the swallows are lovely but they make huge mud nests and are very dirty. Best they nest in actual cliffs. This product worked perfectly.

Amazingly difficult to see even although just above my front door, so pleased with that. Swallows don't like it and have disappeared ๐
