Little Giant Single Plastic Nesting Box Chicken Nest Box with Perch (Item No. 163620)

I am the founder of a chicken and wildlife rescue and sanctuary in Texas which recently expanded its lodging. I have always had my nesting boxes for the hens made in the past few years when we needed them because the ones typically sold that are not built in simply are not what makes a hen comfortable.They need dark, they need shade, they VERY much want privacy, they don't want a hen to perch on the top of the bx and disturb them, they need room to turn around and tend to their nest, and a perch on which to jump to the box, look in and inspect it prior to settling in.They also want it off the floor. If, like me, you have non-flying hens, they can still clear at least a foot even if they can't fly, and they like to be off the ground as hens fear mice and snakes when they go into their deep egg laying trance.They also very much need ventilation.So we just expanded the outbuildings at the sanctuary (which look like an Old West town now) and while some at our rescue are there because someone discarded them after they stopped laying, we have recently taken in some young ones who were in need of care for a variety of reasons which means new eggs. These can be installed in the walk-in buildings by just screwing them into the wall below the higher perches--or on any wall. I bought several.I love the fold down perch in front as do they.It's super easy to clean, unlike wooden boxes which means it's more sanitary for your girls. And if you have very broody hens this is even more important.It does not come with screws which is the one drawback I wish they would have thought of, but buy yourself 4 number 10 screws to go with each opening when you place the order and get happier hens.That means you'll also get more eggs--while that's never been our goal as we love caring and helping them--it does happen when they are this content and feel this safe in their boxes.

These are a nice big size. Easy to clean, and very sturdy on the wall of our coop. A few design flaws I would love to see corrected, but I am a picky person. The measurement from the hole to the bottom where the chicken sits to lay her eggs is very shallow. So like most chickens, my hens like to all lay in the same nesting box. This doesn't leave much room for straw or shavings. They get kicked out quickly and the eggs tend to sit directly on the plastic. Pile a few on there and you have ready made scrambled eggs. Also, there is no backing on these so even though they mount beautifully on unfinished wall studs, we had to attach chicken wire behind them on the wall and bend it down under the box so the eggs don't fall out the back. All in all it is a good buy for the money buy you will have to consider what you are willing to tolerate.

The thing I like the most is the versatility of use. you can put a piece of plywood in the back of a kennel and hang this up for a single bird, or place it in a big coop. The only thing to watch out for is how high you place them since the stepping bracket is a bit short. Bigger birds have a bit of an issue getting in when it's too high. I bought three and placed them at slightly different heights and it works well for my birds. Easy to clean due to the small drain in the back. If you place the screws correctly you can remove it easily for cleaning. I am very satisfied with this product.

I bought three of these a few months ago. I think it took me longer to figure out where I wanted them then it did to mount them to the walls. They are well made and very sturdy. Should be a breeze to clean as well. I was worried about it not fitting the larger breeds but that really won't be a problem at all. Overall really happy with the quality of the product and I think it'll last for many years to come. These boxes do not have backs on them so have to be mounted securely to a flat surface. They also do not come with screws and I understand why. As long as screw head is big enough to hold the box on, you can pick whatever length screw you want/need to mount the nesting box. I will definitely purchase these again if I ever expand my chicken keeping operations.

Nice and comfortable, private area for chickens to lay eggs. Easy to attach to coops wooden wall. Sloped roof so other chickens won’t sit on the top of it. My 5 lb. Brahma hens fit inside it easily.

I love these boxes and have four of them. They are a wee bit costly. If your looking for nesting boxes try your local TSC they have the same ones in blue for $19.99 don’t be over charged for the same item.

Easy to hang and remove for cleaning. Nice slope on top to keep chickens off. Small drain at back bottom to clean while still on wall. I love these and my chickens do too.

These nesting boxes are cheap and easy to put up. They are made of plastic and therefore easy to clean and you can just take them off to move or clean. My chickens used them straight away and now prefer these to their nesting box in their coop.

Excellent easy to clean, chickens took a few weeks to decide they would use them.No back is good because they don't allow red mite to accumulate. I use a wooden shiplap shed, easily cleaned and and sprayed for mite

Great for chicks would like them sold in larger amounts and reduced price but good value
