Highschool geek Arnie Cunningham falls in love with "Christine", a bright red 1958 Plymouth Fury which has seen much better days. Setting himself the task of restoring the car to its original condition, his friends notice that the car is not the only thing that is changing. Arnie seems to spend more and more time with his car. He's also developed a sort of cocky arrogance which does not seem like the real Arnie at all. John Carpenter composed the original score to this cult favorite film from 1983 also directed by Carpenter. 80er unheimliche, romantische Synthesizermusik mit leichter Unterstützung einer Gitarre. Die Minimelodie, heisst, Basisthematik funktioniert sehr sehr gut, gemahnt teilweise an Das Ding. Alles in allem für mich: Topnotch 80er Nostalgie, die bis dato funktioniert. So minimalitisch diese Musik auch ist, die Magie ihrer Zeit kann man so nicht mehr produzieren. Dieser Soundtrack ist der Beweis dafür. Einfach wunderbar. Diese Musik glüht in der Dunkelheit.

A Stephen King film score done right.
This is one of the longest film scores I've come across, with a total of 18 songs. Admittedly, some are alternate versions of others. #7, "Moochie's Death", and #12, "Christine Attacks (Plymouth Fury)" are very similar, for example. But I don't really mind. Not sure why I don't mind, but I don't. Anyway, John Carpenter, the director of the film "Christine" and Alan Howarth are chiefly responsible for the score's creation, and it was published through the Golden Torch Music Corporation. All of the songs used here are well-made, interesting to listen to, and very well suit the scenes to which they are assigned. To make a great movie, you also need a great soundtrack, and here Carpenter's task was made all the more challenging by the fact that he was adapting a Stephen King book into film. Those have to be done very carefully and with great respect for King's written work, and the possibility of messing it all up and making a lousy movie nobody's going to like is quite high. Yet, somehow, Carpenter managed to do it. He made the film and the soundtrack the right way. It's really to bad other Stephen King books and stories haven't been delivered into more capable hands. For those who enjoyed the film, I highly recommend its score. I was rather dismayed to find that there was no CD for the movie containing all the 1950's music it used- at least if there is, I haven't found it yet- but this CD, containing the instrumental music, is quite enjoyable as well.
