Beat all expectations
Honestly, I didn't have high hopes for this tracker. I have six Beagles and 15 acres in a rural area. Any Beagle lover will tell you that fences are no match these avid hunters as their ears seem to turn off when their sniffers go into overdrive. Air tags did not work for us and I was tired of chasing these adorable garbage disposals through the woods. I started with one tracker out of desperation and, to my surprise, it worked better than I would have hoped. Please note that this is technology and is at the mercy of the GPS signal it receives. I receive a message within a minute or two of the dogs leaving the "safe" area. Live tracking works like a dream - even in our rural area. The tracker "jingle" is not very loud. You cannot use it to track your dog. However, our dogs can hear it and every one of them will turn around and come home as soon as they hear it. That was an unexpected and crazy awesome benefit. I've even sent a jingle while I was halfway across the country and it worked flawlessly. All the dogs now have a tracker. It fits on their collars well, light weight, and charges quickly. For us, this tracker is worth every penny.

Highly Recommend for Real Time Tracking—Does Great In The Woods!
I’ve had my Tractive GPS for about a year. I recently adopted a 2 year old border collie. I have access to private property for off leash runs in fields and woods and I wanted to make sure I could keep track of my dog. I chose Tractive because of the positive reviews I’d read, the size— not to big not to small-securely fits on a regular collar and some choice of colors. I haven’t been disappointed! Tractive works great in the woods, real time tracking and easy to use. It’s durable, easy to clean, about 3-4 weeks between charges and I use it daily for a few hours. It’s fully met my needs plus has many features I haven’t used yet . I’ve enjoyed not just being able to keep track of my dog on hikes but also seeing how much in mileage he runs on each hike and seeing his patterns of where he likes to go in the woods when I can’t see him. Highly recommend. This is Ludwig. ❤️

1-YEAR, NON-REFUNDABLE SUB PURCHASE BEFORE TRACKING CAN BE ACTIVATED.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Unlike every other iPhone app that has in-app purchases, Tractive doesn't offer a free trial period. Silly me. I'm so comfortable purchasing from Apple's App Store, I never noticed there's no free trial. In order to connect the app, you give them a credit card #. Fine. Normal. But there's no trial period. Tractive charged $156.00 on day one. When the device turned out to be defective (and the only way to know was to activate the so-called GPS) they're like "HAHA, GOTCHA!!!' I didn't notice the charge on my credit card until a couple of months after I had purchased AND returned AND reported it was utterly useless as a tracker. I disputed the charge. They had the gall to dispute my dispute by saying my credit card was good. They sound like a 5-year-old justifying stealing candy because it was within reach at the checkout lane. They sent the bank a completely irrelevant screenshot of someone's 5-star review (not on Amazon) of a $49 cat collar, saying it was an example of a product description "presented to the cardholder before they completed the transaction. Dig a little and it turns out to be a celebrity endorsement. Had nothing to do with a 12-month subscription that must be paid before the device can be activated. Which is exactly how the App Store works, but the sub can be canceled during a trial period. And of course Amazon has a 30-day return period, even if you don't like the color. But in my case it didn't perform as claimed. Even worse: I went to purchase a Whistle Tracker, which I had several years ago. Great product, great phone service, and month-to-month cellular. Plus their site tracked the dog 24 hours showing the level of activity. (Came in handy when my neighbor accused my dog of barking for hours under his bedroom window, and the Whistle showed she was inside asleep the whole time.) Well, don't buy that either because Tractive has acquired the company. They've no doubt turned it into the same garbage as Tractive.UPDATE: TRACKER SHOWING PET IS IN HOME ZONE. IN ANOTHER NEIGHBORHOOD. SHE IS RIGHT HERE WITH ME. This gadget is worse than useless. I am returning, and purchasing a different brand.I am infuriated. They make a product for protecting pets, but this company doesn't seem to care about pets. My dog was rescued from horrific conditions. I adopted her and have been working hard to keep her safe, trained, well-fed, and treated like a family member. She's my companion and protector and I AM HERS! A week ago she figured out how to escape the gate and went on quite an excursion through the neighborhood. I had an Apple AirTag on her collar, from my deceased 16-year-old dog which was enough. But AirTags don't show in the FindMy app unless it's not moving. AirTags also need to ping off other iPhones. This is a young, strong, very active dog. After chasing her for an hour in 90º heat, I got a call from someone whom she had approached. (Putting one's phone number on the collar in big numbers is the best when you have a pet who never met a stranger. I went straight to Amazon and ordered this tracker. It arrived in about a week. I set it up yesterday. Today, she escaped again. I normally don't review until I have a lot of experience with a purchase. I live on a half acre. Apparently that's too small to create a geofence, Maybe there's a way to alter it. But I was out looking for her while the app was telling me she's safe at home. I spotted her in my next door neighbor's heavily wooded yard. Then the next yard and the next. The homeowner was just getting home and got out of the car to pick up her mail. I yelled. She spotted my dog and spoke in a friendly way, causing the dog to come to her. (Luckily she likes both dogs and humans.) However, this is not what I signed up for. There is no way except email to contact this company. Fine for most electronic gadgets, but unacceptable to find a lost pet who is in danger of getting hit by a car. There is no way to draw a geofence that is accurate and useful. Tractive is well-aware their devices are not reliable. They make their money scamming people. I disputed the charge, since I had returned the item. They disputed my dispute. I've disputed their nonsensical dispute. Update to follow. Also filing a complaint with the App Store.

Love the beeper to recall my already e-collar trained dogs.
I got these trackers for my two dogs, and they’ve been a game-changer. They come with a 6-month subscription, with the option to upgrade to a year for just $10 when you activate the tracker — which I did. Living on 5 acres, I recently had a new neighbor who brought in 5 Texas longhorns on his property. I definitely don’t want my dogs slipping through the fence and getting into trouble, or the cattle getting stressed out. So, I set up a “no-go” zone halfway down my property near the cattle, giving me plenty of time to recall the dogs thanks to the alerts. These trackers have a beeper that I can activate through the app — it’s not super loud, but it’s pitched just right for my dogs to hear and come back. Since my dogs are already trained with e-collars, this system works seamlessly. When I let them outside the fenced backyard to patrol the main property, I switch to live tracking for instant notifications if they enter the no-go zones. I plan to reinforce the fencing near the cattle to prevent any slips, but having these trackers on gives me peace of mind that both my dogs and the cattle are safe and stress-free. After researching many options, I found that the Tractive trackers stand out for their reliable signal, feature-rich app, and solid build. They might seem pricey at first with the subscription, but when I break down the value, they’re actually among the best out there. I use them for my two Dobermans — a 65lb female and a 95lb male — and they fit perfectly on their wider collars. I didn’t feel the need for the XL or adventure XL models; these suits them perfectly.

Accurate location & great activity data, but occasional random signal drops
The location tracking on this GPS tracker is very accurate and provides excellent data on my dog's activity — including movement patterns, rest periods, and daily activity levels. It's been a great tool for keeping tabs on my dog and understanding his behavior throughout the day. The app is intuitive and the live tracking feature works really well most of the time. However, there are occasional moments where the tracker shows no signal for no apparent reason, which can be a bit frustrating when you want real-time updates. It doesn't happen constantly, but it's noticeable enough to mention. Overall, it's a solid product that delivers on its core promise — I just hope future firmware updates can address the random signal drops.

Great peace of mind, love the map & light, awesome battery life
After lots of research I settled on Tractive for our two dogs, and I'm thrilled with the product. I generally don't like subscriptions, so I considered subscription-free options, but they either didn't offer reliable coverage (satellite) or only provided direction/distance (hand held RF controller - you really want a map that you can see your dogs on). I was concerned about battery life, not wanting to have to charge the trackers every day or two, and it turns out the Tractive battery life is AWESOME. Our two very active dogs have gone one week and the battery is still at 50%. I believe the low power mode (based on low activity and using home wifi) is a big part of that. We have a lake house with many unfenced acres (the real reason for this purchase) which doesn't have wifi, so we bought the Tractiv base station to save power (just like home wifi) and I believe that really helps. Our dogs come home wet and muddy from their adventures, and we really appreciate the waterproof nature of product. We are so happy to be able to know where our dogs' ventures are taking them!OK, it's a couple months later and I still love this product! The battery life continues to be about two weeks. Two more things to share:1. Last year I bought and then returned a couple of very expensive tracking/training collars for our two dogs. The high cost (one time and monthly) and frequent battery charging was just too much. Those collars had geofencing which I thought we would need, but really we just want to be able to know where our dogs are, so I don't miss those extra features. If you are looking for an "invisible fence" solution then you should look at those products, otherwise Tractiv is a much better option.2. I also love the light on the Tractiv that I can turn on/off from the app. When we let our dogs out at night it's so nice to just be able to watch them wander and keep them close, and if they get far at night and we call them home it's such a joy to see the light coming to us through the woods (and faster than the GPS locator, which might take a minute or two to give a location).

Excellent tracking, but takes a bit to notify when the dog leaves the safe zone
My dog is an eloper. Let’s start there. 😂I purchased this Tractive GPS Tracker about six months ago. We live in Mississippi, and while the part of MS we live in is not necessarily rural, I had talked with friends who had been unimpressed with other brands of tracking devices specifically because they did not work well outside of a city setting. This tracker has worked well for us more than once! I like that the app lets you track their movements once you get the notification that they have left their safe zone, and I do feel like it’s easy to set up. I like that you can put it on your existing collar (because I put a lot of thought into buying a collar that fits my dog’s personality and I didn’t want to have to jeopardize that or have him wear two collars). The size, design, and fit of the tracker are good. It also tracks a lot of your dog’s vitals, activity, sleep, etc., and that’s cool, but I don’t use it for that purpose. However, if you are interested in that, it is definitely a cool feature. My main complaint is that the tracker does take several minutes to alert you when your dog leaves the defined safe zone. This is the only negative factor, but it’s so important that it causes me to remove stars from my rating. Five to seven minutes of your dog being outside of their safe zone without being alerted is way too long, and that’s about how long it has taken to get a notification consistently.

I Am Impressed!
I desperately needed a tracker that worked in the Georgia woods. I fully expected to have to send this back but, after two days of testing, the performance has impressed me far better than I had expected.A month ago, my Husky broke her lead in the front yard and disappeared into the woods, trailing 30 feet of line. As expected, she got tied up trailing her line but, after three days of searching, I could not find her. This tracker would have taken me right to her.I have tested the tracker and it tracks us on the map really well in the trees with occasional peeks at the sky. No loss of GPS signal indicated thus far. We have pretty marginal cell coverage up here but I have never seen it lose cell lock. Another brilliant thing is, when you get to within 75 feet or so, you can turn on "Radar Mode" and it will use the bluetooth signal for range and bearing to the collar. The collar is very small and fits inside a loop on my Husky's collar. She wears a harness for walks. The subscription will be well worth it next time she makes a getaway. We can just let her run around our property and keep track of her via the phone app. Battery use has been very good thus far, going from 95% the first day to 87% the second day. I can see a need to charge this collar every ten days or so. Another great feature is, whenever the collar is in the Safe Zone (a radius around your house you determine) the collar goes into battery saving mode and shuts down all the cell and GPS tracking. One last feature is a Walk Map feature that shows your distance covered. I always wondered what our total walking distance has been and she is getting 2 miles next to my bike and another 2 miles walking trails each day on our property. I am getting that exercise too!

Best dog related purchase ever.
I bought my tractive dog tracker over a year ago following three hours of panic after I lost my Jack Russel Terrier in a forest in the Lake District. Fortunately, through kind people and Facebook, we were re-united later that evening but I realised I needed a reliable solution. My dog needs to run free and I like giving her that freedom. I chose Tractive after looking through reviews and Youtube videos and I do not have any regrets. The App on my phone, the device itself, battery life, reliability and general design are incredibly good. The App, in standard mode tracks just the mobile phone on which it is installed, but when your dog sets off into the undergrowth, switching to Live mode connects to the tracker and within 10 seconds, tracks both the mobile phone and the tracker so you can tell if you are walking in the correct direction to relocate your dog. For winter months and dark nights, I use the light on the tracker which has dual purpose - it helps you see where your dog is - and warns off wildlife such as badgers which could otherwise be dangerous to small dogs. I have used the tracker regularly in large forests and dark locations and would not feel comfortable letting my dog go loose without it in these types of places. My dog has a half decent recall - unless there is something worth chasing nearby. The charge on the device will work for quite a few hours in standard mode, even with the light on, and I switch between standard and live as required (as my dog comes and goes). I haven't used live exclusively from 100% battery to see how long it would last because I don't want to run the battery down needlessly but I think it may be up to twice as fast on battery usage. Either way, unless you are on a walk that will last for maybe 6 hours or more, a full charge is plenty with standard mode and light on, and fleeting usage in live mode is easily enough. I cannot recommend this product enough. It is waterproof, robust, reliable, fast charging, the light funtion is great and it even has a sound for easy location in dense undergrowth (Although I haven't really used this feature). If there is one (very minor) improvement that could be made it would be the size. As my dog is very small, I could not fit this on her collar as it would be too large but I purchased a harness and fitted the tracker there. It has been there ever since and I charge the tracker while attached to the harness between walks. It is not a problem to me - but was my first thought after I bought it. If you have a small dog, you will need a harness or other dog wear on which to fit it for comfort. For large dogs, I do not think this need even be considered as it would attach to a large collar very easily. If you are considering a tracker, my suggestion is to try Tractive first. You will not be dissapointed.

Peace of mind!
When I adopted my dog a year ago, I wanted peace of mind that if she got away from me, I would be able to locate her quickly! I knew that she wouldn’t be familiar with the area and because I live near a large conservation area, she could easily get disoriented and be difficult to find. Tractive gave me the peace of mind I was looking for! I also like that my mom can “see” where I’m hiking with my dog while my mom is sitting at home. It makes me feel safer knowing that someone I trust knows my location when I’m out hiking alone with my dog. Tractive fits easily on my dog’s collar and she doesn’t seem to notice it at all. A charge lasts a long time and it doesn’t show any signs of wear after a year of daily use. I consider Tractive an essential tool to help keep my dog and myself safe!
