These stool softeners work great and I appreciate the fact that they do not contain red dye. The price isn’t too bad either, but I cannot stress enough that these taste terrible. Definitely have to down them quick! I’m not one that gets very bothered by this, but I know some people have a hard time swallowing pills and especially ones that don’t taste well. Definitely leaves a nasty taste in your mouth if you’re not able to down them quickly. I have no problem with them though, and I have bought several bottles and will continue to do so as they do not contain red dye and work well.

Docusate sodium is a bitter chemical no matter the brand. If you need it in an uncoated dye-free tablet just be prepared for that. This one is economical and effective. To avoid the bitter taste of this slightly large tablet I break it in fourths (easy to do) look up at the ceiling, and drop each piece directly to the back of my throat into a swallow of water. This almost completely avoids the taste buds.

So happy that these are free of artificial colors! Just beware these swallow like old fashioned aspirin - they start to come apart in your mouth if you hesitate to swallow. Then that bitterness stays in your throat. I take them with food, instead of water, and that makes them go down easy.

I had no choice but to buy these stool softener tablets. My elderly mom used to take the gel cap without a problem, until recently she wasn’t able to swallow it properly and it slightly melted in her throat. The gel burned her so much that the more she coughed it out the worse the burning felt. She’s been taking these tablets for about two weeks and not a problem. Since she will not drink a full eight ounce glass of anything, it’s impossible to crush and mix in liquid for her to drink. Instead, I break the tablet in four parts and crush each piece and mix individually in apple sauce. Yes, it’s labor intensive but worth it. The tablet tastes horrible and by spreading it out in applesauce she has no idea she’s eating it over four spoonfuls. Only reason I don’t give it a 5 star is the talc content. I’ve yet to find a tablet that does not have talc and stimulant. She has to have a stool softener to avoid hardening of the stool and constipation, which is a greater risk for a 97 year old than the talc.

This product works well & I really appreciate that it isn't covered with red dye like most other stool softeners. It's great that one tablet is the equivalent of 2 in other products, making it very economical!!

Starts to dissolve in back of throat before swallowing leaving bad taste, dry chalky texture makes pill feel stuck in throat. Risk of nonadherence and noncompliance to medication regimen and treatment. Would be much safer and effective is a protective enteric coating were used. Would have paid more for it and been a long time customer. I do not like gelatin capsules that contain pork so really need a tablet alternative form.

Works well… no dyes

Needed a product that met my dietary restrictions which meant it could not be a gel capsule. Works well but have to swallow it fast before the taste hits your tongue. Taste is bitter and not pleasant.
