Simple, convenient, and better than drip coffee
I decided to get a Mr. Coffee brewer because I was concerned about the reliability issues I read about with the Keurig-branded brewers. I even waited a few extra weeks to receive this latest model in case it had any improvements over the KG1 -- and also because it looks so much cooler. Only time will tell how durable it is, but my initial impression of quality is positive. It also does look as good in person as it does in the photo. This brewer makes the perfect-sized cup of coffee. I get 8 oz bottles of spring water by the case, so brewing a cup involves popping in a K-Cup and emptying a bottle of water into the reservoir. Unless you like coffee that tastes like dirty water, I can't imagine getting an acceptable result putting more than 9 oz water through a K-Cup. I never even go to the 9 oz maximum fill because I like my coffee on the stronger side. Some K-Cups don't make a rich enough coffee for me even with 8 oz water, but I found some that work great. You have to shop around a little and find the ones that suit your taste. I like a good cup of coffee, but I'm not a connoisseur and don't want to be. A K-Cup machine is an alternative for people who drink drip coffee. This brewer makes a better cup of coffee than my previous drip machine, and I'm very satisfied with that. A drip coffee maker does make a hotter cup of coffee though, probably at the expense of quality. The Mr. Coffee brewer makes coffee that's initially at an ideal temperature, but it cools off quickly. I imagine this is an issue typical of K-Cup machines. Pre-warming the mug with hot tap water is helpful, but I'm considering getting Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 10-Ounce Glass Mug, Set of 2 . I'm glad to be rid of the electricity-sucking hot plate of my drip machine and very happy to get a single cup of coffee in 3 minutes flat (including prep) with basically zero cleanup. That's why I bought the machine. The Mr. Coffee brewer works great, looks good, and offers good value in a basic Keurig machine.

Good coffee, good purchase
I purchased this machine after having used a friend's Keurig on a few visits out of town. I really loved the convenience but was put off by the poor reviews of most of the Keurig machines, and the size of them. I decided this smaller machine (which is still a bit bigger than my 1-4 cup Mr Coffee machine) was the best bet for me. Here are some things to think about when purchasing this machine: No water reservoir - fine for me as I was used to pouring water into a regular coffee machine every day and I am the only user of the machine, but for maximum time saving and multiple users, one might be better off choosing a model that has a reservoir. Water temperature - at first I thought it wasn't hot enough, but then I remembered that I had always nuked my coffee after pouring it from the pot before. For very hot coffee, I would still need to do that, but the temp it comes out at is fine for me. I usually finish within 15 minutes, and it is still warm by the time I'm done. Dispensing size - There is an 8oz mark, and there is a Max mark in the water tank. Max is a little over 9 oz, which is what I always use. If you pour more that that in, the excess will drain into the drip tray before brewing. When testing, I used 10 oz (over the Max line) and got less than an ounce in the drip tray. Coffee strength - this is related to the dispensing size and is the biggest limitation for me. I like weak coffee. I have tried 6 different k-cups so far and found that using the max water amount wasn't quite enough water for 3 of the k-cups I've tried (I'm cycling through a variety pack of 12). I haven't tried the bold flavored ones yet. For this fact alone, it would be better to have a machine that dispensed more water, but once I settle on some flavors I will buy going forward, I'm sure they won't be the bold ones. Mug size - there is a removable drip tray so you can fit a travel mug, but after taking it out my 16oz travel mugs are still too tall for it. Reusable filters - I purchased the Ekobrew filter and tried my own coffee in it when I wanted some decaf last night. It worked great. If you really want all the bells and whistles and maximum time saving, I suggest getting one the more full featured models. I've had this machine a week and I'm really satisfied with it, especially for the price, which was ~ $72 when I purchased. If I find that I want to upgrade in the future, I will take this one to work. Also, I think there are models with cup sensors. I haven't made this mistake yet, but I have a feeling that one day I might brew some coffee and forget to put the mug underneath. **6 week update** - I am really very happy with this coffee maker and so glad I purchased it. I did notice a problem a few times where the water didn't brew, it just went right into my mug cold. What happened is that I got things out of order. Water goes in first, then the Kcup. If you start messing with the order, this machine will let you know it doesn't like that.

Very good, but not perfect.
This Mr. Coffee is definitely a good value, especially if you snag one on sale (I got mine on Amazon for $55). It works well and is easy to use, brews a cup in under 2 minutes. I happen to use a 9-oz. mug, so it's perfect for me -- designed to brew an 8-oz. cup, but the reservoir does accommodate 9 ounces. However, a 10 or 12-oz. water reservoir would be nice. Quite a few of the K-cups containing "bold" or dark roasts yield a brew that's way too strong for me. A number of others reviewers have complained that the coffee doesn't come out hot enough. Well, the degree to which the water is heated seems to be controlled by a timer instead of a thermometer. So if you start with very cold water you'll only get warm (not hot) coffee. My solution is to keep a small bottle of water beside the unit standing at room temperature. Then the brew comes out hot enough, but far from scalding. I can't let it sit for any length of time before drinking it. That, and the small water reservoir are my reasons for deducting one star from an otherwise very good coffee maker. Living alone, I love the Keurig concept of making one fresh cup at a time instead of brewing a pot in the morning that tastes terrible by the time I want another cup in the afternoon. Flavored brews and being able to make a quick cup of hot chocolate are luxuries I really appreciate too. Any way you cut it, the K-cups are expensive compared to using ground coffee. So I buy flavored K-cups and use the EZ-Cup refillable cup system (the one that uses the little pre-formed paper filters) with ground coffee from the supermarket (I like Yuban) as an economical solution for my regular coffee. Flavored coffees you might like that come out tasting great -- not too strong -- with this Mr. Coffee include Donut Shop Coconut Mocha, Gloria Jean's Butter Toffee and Macadamia Cookie, Kahlua, Café Escapes Cafe Mocha and (for a light, sweet bedtime beverage) Café Escapes Cafe Caramel.

15 month UPDATE
Great introduction to the k-cup market and fits my budget. I wanted to get a keurig machine without spending a lot of money after hearing mixed reviews of the k-cups and some of the machine models. I scoured the listings for cost, features and reviews by other customers. I settled on this machine and I really do enjoy it. It's used every day and so nice to be able to have any flavor of coffee for yourself or company and being able to change flavors with every cup. Also nice for cocoa. I have not tried tea flavors yet but I assume they will brew as well as the coffee does. If you are a first time buyer like myself and don't mind going cup by cup (as this model does not have a water tank) this is a great deal. If you are going to use more often, I believe you are better to go with the one that holds 24 oz or higher models. If you prefer the bells and whistles you will need to go with a genuine Keurig or other maker. One convenient feature would be the drip tray. If you ever forget to place a mug under the dispenser before the coffee comes out the drip tray does kindly hold one serving of coffee eliminating one great big mess on my kitchen counter and probably would have run all over the floor as well. That's what I get for taking advantage of the fact that you have time to grab a mug while it's heating up. My mom is right, multi-tasking is not always a good idea! UPDATE: For the most part I had a positive experience with this machine for fifteen months but that is when I needed to claim my Canopy protection plan refund (purchased separate for $9.99) Problems with the machine were that you had to push the button more than once to get all the water from the tank and and also the coffee wasn't hot enough. It never made a piping hot coffee to begin with so when the temp produced goes even lower... not good. Perhaps newer models have improved? All things considered it's a fair performance for the money but I am so happy I went with an extended protection to cover me if it didn't work out in the long run.

Two Weeks of Good Coffee
I'm a coffee snob, but at work I really don't have time to brew the perfect cup. The K-cup system seemed to offer a good compromise. I could have hot coffee at the touch of a button. Keurig has dialed in reasonable grinds, brewing times, and water temperature (all variables that can make or break a cup of coffee). The brewing process seems to take a couple of minutes (heating time for the most part) and the pump is not "whisper quiet," but it does not disturb me when I'm sitting three feet away and having a conversation (I'm a little hard of hearing, too). This isn't gourmet coffee, but it's pretty darn good when I need a reasonably good cup RIGHT NOW. At least it used to be. I ordered mine on February 18th. I've had it at work for almost exactly two weeks. Today it failed. The pump runs. The water heats. But it does not flow through the machine to brew any coffee. Internet searches suggest that it could be scale (but it isn't, not in two weeks!), a clogged filter between the water reservoir and the pump (since the reservoir isn't removeable, I have no way of checking--but I brew with filtered water only), or a damaged pump. It doesn't really matter what the cause is. I'm not going to take it apart and try to fix it! From the complaints I've read, my problem is not uncommon. This model goes back. Since I liked the coffee and it fit into my office life, I'm going to try another version--all the time keeping in mind that pump failure MAY be the bugaboo. On the other hand, a clogged filter can be cleaned with a removeable reservoir model. I will order one of those and cross my fingers. Most people don't have a problem, I'm sure. And I'm not going off on the companies involved. Mistakes happen. But I'm willing (at this point) to try again. Go ahead and try getting one of these (or another model, the problem seems common to most Keurig-based machines). Just don't be too disappointed if you need to return it soon after you get it. As far as coffee speed and quality of brewing, I'd give the WORKING machine 3 1/2 stars. Since it FAILED, only the single star as a Caveat Emptor device.

does the job.
After our Keurig migrated to the Board room, we missed it in the main office. I purchased this one to hold us over- and based on the price and reviews it works. It's attractive, makes a good cup of coffee or tea, and is cheaper than most alternatives. The only drawback- it is really slow, perhaps because it holds only the one cup at a time. I put the electric kettle on at the same time as a k-cup and nearly had boiling water in the same time.

Eleven years and counting = 5 stars
Initial review - I have the previous model and like it much better. This delivers weak coffee (six cups so far) and has a plastic taste to it. Since it has a totally different sound, I am assuming the technology is different from the first model. I would give the original one I have (BVMC-KG1-001) 4.5 - 5 stars. This I'm giving two stars to. Just not happy with the overall taste of coffee compared to the original. I'd probably give it one star except it does look "cooler" on the counter. Six month update - I took this to work and have found that I do enjoy it quite a bit if I buy different coffee. Co-workers don't have another single serve to compare it against and are all very happy with the coffee it produces. Since we have to go quite a ways to get water to clean a pot, the single serve clean-up is particularly appreciated. So, I'm upgrading to four stars. Not wanting to mess with loose tea at work, we've discovered it also works okay with green tea bags and others that don't require boiling water (bags in cup, not the brew basket). Five year update - who would have thought. This machine has made 2-4 cups per day for the last five years and is still going strong, even though we are very lax about descaling and use water fountain water when bottled runs out. I'm updating to 5 stars just for that. We tend to use recyclable cups and/or the reusable (different folks have had different types - the machine has lasted longer than the staff getting promotions). Eleventh year review: What a delight! Eleven years of daily use, several cups a day highly irregular cleaning and still going strong. Didn’t check to see if it is still made - probably not, if it lasts this long.

Mr Coffee Not the Hot Dude Like Use to BE! Sigh
It is very difficult to write a review of a product when one wants to "like" it so doggone much! I really "want" one of these up-to-date, oh so "fancy me" one cup coffee makers. I mean heck, at my gentle ole' age, I think it is ok to "indulge" a little when my dogs, cats, and raccoons (yes, I have raccoons!) allow me and are not eating me out of house and home! I spoil them, so I thought I would spoil myself with "Mr. Coffee"! Yea, my man, Mr Coffee drip, for many a moons on those early risin's, early morning hunting trips, and just plain ole work! Ahhhhh....the days of filling a thermos with drip coffee from the ole' man himself, "Mr. Coffee"!!! So, after searching, reading, searching, reading, and still not being sure what model to go with, Amazon went and threw the bait at me. Yeppers! I took it hook, line, and sinker on a "daily deal". Surely, I thought I have my one cup coffee maker to spoil little ole me and at a great price! Hmmmm....hmmmm...mind if I hmmmmm....one more time? Sorry, but hmmmm... Great Price! Fast ship! Way to go Amazon!!!! I felt like a kid with a brand new toy. I opened the package delivered by my fine UPS guy (which by the way Amazon was not packaged very well.) Shame on you as generally Amazon you do a great job putting good packaging material in shipments. Come to think of it, maybe that is what caused me to be cryin' now...too much shakin'? Jarrin? Jumblin? during transit? No, I honestly don't think so. Look, folks, bottom line is this and you have read it before if you are reading reviews... THE COFFEE AIN'T HOT! Come on Mr Coffee, is "lukewarm" your idea of a nice decent "hot" cup of coffee? I mean geeze whiz, your drip makers did better and kept in my ole' trusty thermos longer and hotter than this thing put in the cup! And, yes, I did try more than one cup...Funny thing, this Mr Coffee, when you run just plain water through it, the water is "sorta'" hot, but man oh man, put one of those K cups in it and there goes the "hot" to lukewarm! And, folks, I am not one who wants that scolding "me tongue" hot, but just hot enough so at least I feel like I can sit the cup down for a moment! I am not genuis and never claimed to be...just an ole' Southern gent slowly movin' along these days, but I know "hot" or at least hmmmm...I use to know "hot"! One would think everything that breathes or drips is hot to this ole' man, but nooooooooo not this machine....good ole' double negative NOOOO NOT HOT! Mr. Coffee, I want my coffee hot please :) Will I give up on Mr. Coffee? Not really...perhaps I got one of those "flukes" I have been reading about in the reviews, but sure seems to be "lots of 'em". So, folks, to wrap this up... Does the machine look good...OH YEAH! PRETTY LIL' THING SHE IS! Nice and shiny! Did I see if cleaning would be easy...OH YEAH! She cleans up rather nicely! Is it modern? SURE IS in the view of this ole' gent...very modern indeed and maybe Mr Coffee needs to meet Mrs. Coffee to determine "HOT"! Oh, for those of you that like a long cord...not with this model. It is rather on the short side as many have said, but nothing that cannot be worked through if you get one and decide it is "hot" enough. I have said enough. If you want to take the chance, you very well might enjoy this machine. I will be crossin' my fingers you get better results. For me, back to the drawin' board in search on a HOT MODEL! Rasin' a Rumblin' Me! One Star for comestics and appearance One Star because I just can't give up on Mr Coffee Yet One Star for ease of use and cleaning... ***There an average review...you are welcome this time Mr. Coffee, or errrr....should I say "Sunbeam" which surprised me to see they manufactured this machine!
