Very Good Waffle Maker
Waffle plates have small square tabs that fit slots in the back of the top and bottom lids and are held in place by small easy to operate latches in the lids. The base is plastic that feels heavy. The plastic drip pan/sheet fits on top the base. The cylinderical plastic handle is part of the front rotational plastic axis, splits into two halves when you open the lids. The handle rotates in the base and locks the two lids together when you rotate the lids to flip the waffle. The handle folds 90 degrees to store, feels light weight but adequate. Top and bottom lids open with a large plastic hinge. The hinge has the back rotational plastic axis that fits in the base. The control knob is on the top lid, has 4 positions; min-1-2-3. There is a red power-light and green ready-light on the top lid next to the control knob. Another green-ready light is on the bottom lid and you can see it when you flip the waffle. The waffle maker seems well built enough for normal use. Should not be rough with waffle maker, it will not hold up to abuse. Used packaged waffle flour mixture from the supermarket and prepared per instructions. Used spray-on vegetable oil on the waffle plates. Set control to position 2. Waffle maker was ready when the green light came on, poured in slighty less than one cup of mixture, closed lid and flipped waffle, waited 5 minutes. Green light went off as the waffle baked and steam escaped. After 5 minutes, steam was gone, and green light came on again. Opened top lid, waffle was light tan and very soft. Next waffle was baked longer, 6 minutes and was golden brown but a little soft. Longer baking time produced darker brown but crisper waffles. Waffle plates were easy to remove and clean. Overall very please with waffle maker and waffles made.

But I am sad no longer
I would have paid twice the price for a waffle iron with removable dishwasher safe plates. I've had other waffle irons over the years including one that cost nearly $150. Who does that? It was an ex husband purchase that sadly moved out during the divorce. But I am sad no longer. The man and the walls maker have been replaced. With all my past irons I never felt like I could ever get them fully clean after use. And of all the irons I have owned this is far and away my favorite. Heats rather quickly. The handle folds out for ease of use and storage. It has adjustable heat settings to make waffles just as you like or to adjust if you would like to use the iron to make something else like brownies or omelettes. Overall the unit seems rather sturdy and well made. And I can't say enough about the convenience of popping out the plates and tossing them in the dishwasher. The ease of use and cleanup make it so easy to make a breakfast that seems like it took a lot of work and earn serious rock star mom points. (To make it even easier measure out flour, baking powder, all dry ingredients- I like to throw in some cinnamon. Throw in ziplock bags that are ready to go when needed, just add egg and oil. Having to get out and measure fewer things first thing in the morning is easier for me.) All said and done; it makes great waffles and is well worth the money.

Flawless waffles...for a year.
I’ve never made waffles before. I took this out of the box and quickly/easily put it together. For my first attempt, I kept it simple and just used the Aunt Jemima Complete mix (you add water and oil to the dry mix). One batch makes 3 of these waffles. I plugged in the waffle maker, sprayed the plates lightly with non-stick spray (which I later realized you don’t ever need at all), turned it on to setting 2, and waited for the Ready light. When it came on, I poured almost 1 cup of batter into the center of the grid, shut the lid, and flipped it. Once it pretty much stops emitting steam, it’s done. I flipped it back and out came the most perfect waffles ever. No issues at all. In fact, my daughter, who smothers pancakes in chocolate chips, refused to top these with anything, for fear of masking their perfection. Clean up is also very easy. Nothing sticks so I remove the plates and tray just to hand wash them. I’ll post an update if its performance changes, but so far, this is an ideal purchase. UPDATE: After a year of normal use, the waffles started cooking unevenly, with one side burning while the other was still pale and soft. After 1.5 years, I threw it in the trash. It cooks too unevenly to be viable.

Great price - Good product
I debated waffle makers for a long time. In the end, I decided the most important feature for me as that the plates could be completely removed for thorough washing. I've had a small one that wasn't, and it took longer to try to wipe it clean than it took to make waffles! I was never satisfied with the results. The plates on this one come off and on very easily and clean beautifully. I've used a non stick spray and without and am pleased either way. Some reviewers said they found the drip tray useless, but I quite like it. It catches overfill dripes and is extremely easy to wash. Nothing sticks to it. I like that the unit can be stored vertically to save room. It makes BIG waffles. It takes longer than I expected though. I guess since it is "Belgian" I associated it with those huge units you see in restuarants and at hotels that offer breakfast items including "make your own waffles". Those are very hot and very fast. This is not that size or professional grade. If you are feeding a family, you will need to start the waffles early and keep them warm until enough are made so that everyone gets one at the same time. OR, I've read that some make the waffles in advance and freeze them. You can set a timer, once you figure out how long it takes to get the waffle the way you like it, and then do other things only having to come back when the timer sounds. You can make as many as you want without having the hungry family waiting and fighting over the 1st waffles. After they cook, you can freeze them and then thaw overnight and reheat in the oven or toaster. This unit has a red and green light to indicate when it is hot enough to begin cooking, but other than that, I didn't find I could guage anything by that light. We like our waffles crispy. So, I put the knob on the darkest setting and it still takes 7 minutes or so using whole wheat flour batter. A lighter batter might cook faster. So, until you see what works for your family, you have to just keep checking the waffle every couple of minutes rather than trusting the green light. It will cycle back and forth between red and green and it has very little to do with when I determine the waffle is cripsy enough. I have only one complaint with this item. The back edge of the plate (the side farthest from the handle) does not seem to get as hot as the rest of the plate. So, when I decide the waffle is brown enough to remove, that edge is always less cooked and cripsy. This would only be an issue if you like your waffles soft and less brown because you'll have to make sure that edge is actually not raw still. Overall, I think this a grood product and a great price. Very happy.

Got this for Christmas and couldn't be happier. It is exactly what I wanted
Got this for Christmas and couldn't be happier. It is exactly what I wanted. A REAL Belgian waffle maker. Nice FAT thick yummy delicious Belgian waffles. I've gone on Pinterest and found a huge site of all these great ideas you can do with a Belgian flip waffle maker. I was crazy happy with just my delicious FAT fluffy Belgium waffles but the recipe ideas are endless. I can't wait to try them all. The one big tip I do want to give you guys is when you use two eggs, separate the the whites. Add the yokes in as usual, but whip the whites till they are whipped into peaks. Then at the very end just delicately fold the whipped egg white into the batter and cook. Boy oh boy what a huge difference that makes. I think I got to go make a batch right not. Yummy! Oh and the clean up is a breeze with the pop off plates. Just load them in the dish washer along with the drip tray (thank you very much). It is easy to store because the handle twist down and the unit slides to 45*. Fits easily in my small kitchen cabinets. I highly recommend this unit and I'm 100% pleased. Hungry too

This Waffle Maker gets the Pawnee, Indiana Parks & Recreation Department Seal Of Approval
Leslie Knope is my spirit animal, as I am completely obsessed with waffles, and I am a little bit crazy just like her. She would love this waffle iron, but then she would probably trash it after one use because she would be scared of putting JJ's Diner out of business. Thankfully, I don't have a JJ's diner near me, and I like to make my own waffles. I can see Jerry/Larry/Garry Gengurch buying this waffle iron for Leslie Knope, and the mockery that would follow the next day as Leslie and the entire office would blame Jerry/Larry/Garry for putting JJ's Diner in danger. Seriously though, upon purchasing this waffle iron, I was unsure of what to expect. I'm so used to getting things that are so well received by other people, only to find myself in disappointment. However, I'm incredibly pleased with my purchase. Keeping this waffle iron clean is so easy, and it cooks some amazing waffles. I'm actually fine with the unit not having an alarm to tell me when the waffles are done, most waffle iron alarms are loud and I don't like that. I also really like that I can detach the plates and put them in the dishwasher after use, as well as the space for a tray to catch any excess mix below. I also really like that it's made of stainless steel, BUT BE CAREFUL, you shouldn't touch any part of the unit except the handle during and shortly after operation. Attached is a picture of an amazing waffle I made using Carbon's Golden Malt Waffle Mix. I was a bit short on batter when I made it, but it was amazing nonetheless.

Makes EXCELLENT waffles; great value, easy to use, hopefully will hold up over time!
This Hamilton Beach Flip Belgian Waffle Maker is capable of making some excellent waffles--every bit as good as the kind many people enjoy at the continental breakfast line at some hotels, with the only difference being that this waffle maker does not have an automated timer that beeps when the waffle is ready. Instead, you dial in the desired temp setting (I set mine on 1, the second-lowest option), pour on the batter, close the lid and rotate the handle to turn the griddles over, then wait approximately five minutes until the steaming tapers off. Lift the lid and VOILA! You have an exquisite waffle! Obviously, the taste and cook time of the waffles depends on the recipe for the batter you use. I find that mixes which include eggs make the fluffiest most authentic tasting kind, but if you look around you can find a good one that does not require you to whip/beat the egg whites, which is tiring and time-consuming. There are also some good instant mixes out there. I noticed other reviewers commenting that some of these do not heat properly. I did not have that problem. Mine gets piping/steaming hot and has given me no trouble. It takes about 5-7 minutes to initially warm up, at which point a green "Ready" light illuminates. After every 2 waffles you cook, it's good to let it re-heat for a moment because if you keep pouring on the batter in rapid succession, it will overwhelm the heating element, causing it to take noticeably longer to re-heat and cook the third waffle (and will cook that waffle inconsistently as a result). Not a big deal. The only quibble I have here is that this waffle maker doesn't feel particularly durable. It works fine, but only time will tell if it holds up. For $22 on a lightning deal, I think it was an outstanding value regardless. One last point: These waffles are quite large. Many folks will be satisfied to split one in half with a significant other. Otherwise, you had better be hungry if you're going to eat a whole one yourself. [UPDATE 12/18/2017: One year later and this waffle maker is still going strong! I love it! I've used it at least 50 times this year, probably quite a bit more than that, and all the waffles have come out great!]

The Good, The Bad and The Reality...
I purchased this item for use at my beach house, in spite of many reviews that stated the product would not heat up sufficiently. The waffle iron arrived as promised and works like a charm. Removable, dishwasher safe grids are fantastic. Folding handle helps with storage. My family was so impressed that another one was purchased for use at our primary residence. The 2nd waffle iron DID NOT HEAT TO NEEDED TEMPERATURE (as indicated by many other reviews). A call to Hamilton Beach customer support was no help. I was advised to pre-heat and cook longer. Still did not finish waffles. I turned on the waffle maker with the grids removed, and realized that the heating elements were not turning red. Another call to Hamilton Beach was no help at all. Due to a family vacation, I waited too long to return the 2nd none-functioning waffle maker. But I still love the 1st working unit. I purchased a 3rd Waffle Iron. When it arrived and was fresh of the delivery truck, I unboxed the unit, removed the grids and plugged the unit in. The heating elements glowed a reassuring red and generated lots of heat. Bottom line is that the product is outstanding if you get one that works. Do the "red heating element visual test" as soon as your product arrives. If you got a good one congrats, if not, send that puppy back and request a replacement, repeat as needed. My batting average is .666 (2 for 3). I love this product's design and the waffles that it makes. Just make sure the one that is delivered can heat up to the desired temperature...

Weekend Waffle Adventures: The Perfect Start to Our Mornings!
Our weekends have taken a delightful turn ever since we got this amazing waffle maker! Let me tell you, it's become a beloved part of our family routine. Every Saturday morning, the kitchen transforms into a bustling waffle wonderland. My partner and I wake up early, eager to put our new waffle maker to the test once again. It's so easy to use and clean that it makes the whole process a joy rather than a chore. The removable plates are a game-changer, and the waffles come out perfect every single time! One morning, our son decided he wanted to be the head chef. With a little guidance, he poured the batter into the machine and watched with wide-eyed anticipation as the waffles cooked to golden perfection. The green light indicator told us when they were ready, and the excitement in the kitchen was palpable. The best part is when we all gather around the table, topping our waffles with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Our son loves making funny faces with the toppings, turning breakfast into a creative and fun experience. The waffles are always perfectly cooked, with a crispy outside and fluffy inside, just the way we like them. One memorable weekend, we decided to have a waffle-themed brunch with friends. Everyone brought their favorite toppings, and our kitchen turned into a mini waffle bar. The waffle maker handled the crowd effortlessly, churning out batch after batch of delicious waffles. It was a hit, and everyone left with full bellies and big smiles. This waffle maker has truly become the star of our weekend mornings. It's reliable, easy to use, and makes waffles that taste like they’re straight from a fancy restaurant. If you're looking to add a bit of magic to your mornings, I can't recommend this waffle maker enough!

The Best
I really love this waffle maker. I should preface this by saying I have never owned a waffle maker despite wanting one for years but was constantly talked out of it by friends who warned me about the plates being too hard to clean, too difficult to cook properly or the general messiness of waffle makers. I can honestly say those things have been non issues with this one. Following the directions for cooking and care it will make the most amazing perfect waffles that don’t break and come out of the device easy and perfectly cooked every time. Clean up is even easier because the trays pop right out and wipe up without any real effort. You can put them in the dishwasher as well but you don’t even need to. The tray below catches any mess which only happened to me once because I overfilled the tray but even still all the batter was caught by it making clean up super easy despite the mess I had made. Also the cook time is fast pour the mix, close the lid and wait 10 seconds, flip it and in minutes the light goes on letting you know it’s time to flip it back and enjoy a waffle. Great product, great design, made well. I really love this device and now I have waffles all the time quick and easy.
