Shocking results..
I was given a saw from a friend, the problem was - โit wonโt startโ. I figured it would be a simple carb clean, or plug change, and it would fire up. Well, after further inspection, there was a hole in the piston (looking through the spark plug hole I could see this). I figured it was trash, until I did some searching and found this motor replacement. For $40, I said what the heck, why not. $40 investment into a new saw? Sure. Iโve never worked on chainsaws before, let alone swapped a motor on one, but I figured with the help of YouTube Academy, I could manage. The swap is straight forward, just make sure you label and bag all of your bolts. Use the new motor mount bolts, and ignition mount bolts that come with the new engine, as they are a different thread pitch than the originals. Also, the guides say to take the handle off to disassemble pull out the old motor. The reason is because there is one lower motor mount bolt that you canโt access because the handle is in the way. Try getting the handle plugs out, they are impossible! Let alone the rubber grommets. I got 3 plugs out and decided there has to be a better way. So I pondered for a second, and then I saw my step drill bit. Make a small access hole in the underside of the bottom of the handle to access the last motor mount bolt. It only needs to be big enough to fit your T25 bit through, and doesnโt affect the structural integrity at all. This was much easier! Donโt worry about getting the bolt all the way through the access hole, itโs accessible from the side and will fall out. Now you can change the engine without removing the handle! As far as the engine goes - I also had changed the carb, fuel tank feed hose and fuel filter and I had kinked the fuel line which wasnโt giving the carb fuel. Once I realized this, the engine fired right up and now starts on one or two pulls. Well worth the investment!

Great purchase to rebuild your saw!
Definitely worth the purchase! installed this motor into my Sthil chainsaw and it has run great for several days. Was a very cost-effective solution compared to purchasing a new saw!

Outstanding replacement.
This cylinder & piston replacement had a new crankshaft, assembled and ready to install. It came with a new spark plug and new bolts for mounting the engine to case and the coil. Saved me time and money trying to find the correct bolts.

Didn't last long
It worked while it worked. It ran less than 10 hours over 4 months and then the rings broke. The engine was tighter than the original engine for a little while and loosened up to normal friction. I am not able to guess if any of the other $40 engines on Amazon are better. The original engine melted a hole in the piston after replacing the original air filter with a thinner one - from running too lean. I replaced this one with an OEM Stihl complete engine from Ebay for $110. Next time I will buy just the piston and cylinder.

Its Ok
Bought this to test for fun. It works well once its started. Getting the saw going is the hard part. I work on chainsaws an small engine at my local repair shop. No matter what I do with the carb screws it still takes around 10 pulls to start.

Replacement motor for 30 yo 018C
My saw 018C is about 30 years old now. Compression was too low to run. Rather then install new rinds I replaced the motor with this one. It came with the metric replacement hardware. It was well packed and looks well made. It was a perfect fit. The saw fired up without any problems. I let it idle for a few minutes and cool. Repeated a few times before trying it out. It's easy to start, runs good and has decent power. Time will tell how long it will live but for now, I'm happy with the motor.

Works Very Well For MS170 Replacement
This Carbhub MS180 short block replaced the one in my MS170, so now I have a MS180 and it works excellent. I did put a little 2-cycle oil in the crankcase through the exhaust port in order to ensure that the crankshaft and connecting rod were lubber up (this step was probably not needed). I'm glad that the six bolts were provided because the existing bolts would not work. The only issue I had was that I overtightened one of the coil attachment bolts and might have stripped the threads, but it appears to be working still; but if it loosens up, I'll just tap some new threads for a different bolt. My MS170 or now MS180, now works like a new chainsaw.
