Can you switch the transmitter off to mute while changing guitars?

No you can't. When we change guitars we just hit the mute button on the mixer and then switch.

So there is no need for "channels"?

No......just plug the transmitter into the receiver ....it will blick for about 10 seconds and then you are paired. No dialing in channels.
