Demons, once trapped in the glacial ice of the Earth, have been unleashed on mankind after centuries of non-intervention. These beasts are swiftly infiltrating our peaceful world in hordes. Only two young men have the ability to stop them, Ryo Asuka and his best friend, Akira Fudo. But the only way to combat a demon, is to become a demon. Only a young man with a pure heart can possess the powers of a demon. That young man is Akira Fudo! By gaining the powers of the brave demon warrior, Amon, Akira becomes humanity's only hope... Devilman! Fighting for humanity, and satisfying his demonic urges, Akira battles demon after demon - from the grotesque Jinmen to the alluring harpy, Sirene. Can Akira and Ryo protect the future of humanity, or is this battle far greater than they have imagined? Based off the classic manga by artist Go Nagai (Mazinger Z, Cutie Honey), and directed by Tsutomu Iida (Mighty Space Miners, Hellsing), Devilman is a bone chilling horror that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It includes the original Japanese language with English subtitles, and the Manga Entertainment English dub. Review: nice set! - i love the OVAs for devilman! however i do have one complaint, the volume mix on the english dub for this is off, voice lines are much louder than background music, which is a shame, because the background music is awesome. the japanese audio does not have this problem, but it's really noticable if you change audio tracks in the middle of the feature, the english tracks are quieter overall as well. it's not a complete deal breaker for me, and i dont know how much of it was discotek media's fault, but still i feel this should be talked about also don't pay too much for this one, it has a MSRP of $29.95, and i paid $26 for my copy Review: Great old school anime. - This is a pretty good old school anime for people who liking watching classic stuff. And the shipping was pretty good. But some of the jokes wasnโt really good in English. But I am thinking because it just didnโt translate well to English. But it still was a good anime.

One of the greatest transformations of all time
To the many of you out there that knows the truth worth of these movies.. You made the price go up. Shame on you. Let's instead, somehow work together to help the price go down. No movie today, in this digital age of streaming should cost that much. Under any circumstance.

This Old School Anime Rules!
The single Blu-ray disc of the Devilman Complete 1987-1988 OVA series contains the episodes, The Birth and Demon Bird Sirene, for an overall runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. The Extras include a Manga Trailer Video, English Credits and Audio Drama. The 27 minute long Drama is in spoken Japanese with English subtitles. The English dub of the OVA is verbose. Though at times humourous, it's full of lewd innuendo and foul language. The dialogue translation of the subtitled version conveys the stories in the two episodes of the OVA more as a tragic epic story with a small bit of fan service than in the English dub. The fan service is most apparent in the second episode. The most significant swear word in the subtitled version referred to excrement. The English dub was filled with F-bombs and other nonsense. The volume of the English dub is loud in comparison to the volume of Japanese voiced version. The soundtrack of the Japanese version is more balanced allowing to appreciate the background music. The music is well done to accommodate the storytelling too. The opening music and animation of the idyllic world at the beginning of the first episode, The Birth, is totally misleading that the story is in the realm of demons. The animation, done in hand drawn cels, is a delight of artwork. The colors are deep and robust. Lines are clean, dark and sharp. The depiction of the various demons and the violence within the story is imaginative and graphic. It's the stuff of nightmares. Neither the sub or dub version of this story is suitable for younger viewers. This is an old school animation that I've been able add to my collection for under $20 in December 2025.

Better Than the Netflix Version
The first and still best anime adaptation. The recent Netflix series may have better production values, but it does not capture the true spirit of the human who becomes a devil in order to protect humanity. There is no good or evil here, just a battle for survival played out in operatic style. Great soundtrack. Exquisite art. A classic of old school anime. Be sure to check out the bonus audio that continues the story.

Nostalgic viewing
I remember seeing this originally on the Manga Entertainment label and watching them again on this Bluray took me back to when I first watched them. It features the same dubbing as the VHS release- which is rare for anime releases these days. Very well presented and remastered for the format.
