Transform natural inspiration into delicate textile art using your sewing machine. Renowned textile artist Meredith Woolnough shares her unique “organic embroidery” technique, guiding crafters and fiber artists through the process of creating intricate, nature-inspired designs. This book offers a behind-the-scenes look at her artistic journey, from initial field sketches and research to the creation of her signature openwork embroidered pieces. Inside, you’ll find: Step-by-step guidance on using a sewing machine for organic embroidery 12 creative exercises to help you develop your skills Techniques for translating natural forms—such as leaves, shells, and coral—into stitched designs Dozens of inspirational photographs of Woolnough’s artwork The techniques are simple yet versatile, allowing you to explore your own creative direction while mastering the fundamentals. An inspiring guide for anyone looking to combine nature, creativity, and textile art. Review: A great resource for ideas - Having come across Meredith's work on IG, and her helpful encouragement to my questions, I realised my own sewing machine could produce this type of embroidery! While there is a free online introductory course ( which is definitely worth a watch alongside this book) the book itself is jam packed full of ideas, stories behind some of the works, lots of useful troubleshooting tips and most importantly the early chapters encourage you to collect your own images/sketches so you are starting right off designing your own ideas, instead of cloning the artist's, which is a really important copyright consideration as I plan to add embroidered motifs to pieces I will be selling. Definitely a must have if you are considering creating freehand botanical and marine motifs. I think I'm hooked! Now to find all the shells I brought back from Australia, for reference...☺️ Review: Plenty of inspiration - Great book full of detailed information and beautiful photos. Tips for preparation, designing piece and useful practice ideas. I am looking forward to using as a workbook and for inspiration.

If you like the unusual in embroidery and textiles this is one for you. Great pictures and instructions but not for the faint hearted if machine embroidery is not your thing.
