GuliKit TMR Joystick Replacement Module for PS4 DualShock Controller

Fixed 2 ps5 contollers that had bad left sticks with this kit. Desolder old alps joystick, solder in new gulikit stick and done. Works great after quick calibration on their site. So far so good. Couldnt be happier and i really like the thumbsticks that comes with it. Def would buy again

Over the past couple months the stick drift on my Xbox Series X controller went from none to so bad i couldn't stand still in multiple games without my character wandering off. I had two options, buy another $59.99 controller or gamble a bit by buying these replacement hall effect sticks and installing them myself. I have lots of experience soldering so i took the gamble and it was worth every penny. First off, installing these is not easy. Removing the 12 pin joysticks can be difficult for novices or people who lack the proper tools to do it. You need a good quality soldering iron, solder, solder "sucker", and some flux. And to get the controller apart, you need a few specialized security screwdrivers, the star drive ones with the hole in the middle for each screw's security pin. Lastly, i'd also recommend some side cutters. The reason for the side cutters is to cut apart the old joystick housings so when you're done, you just have to remove the legs that are soldered through the PCB. Attempting the pull the entire joystick out intact would likely damage the PCB. The whole process of disassembly, removal, cleaning, soldering, more cleaning, and re-assembly took me about an hour. Once the controller was assembled, i connected it to my PC and ran the "Xbox Accessories" application and ran the calibration program on both joysticks and the triggers, and to my surprise these new sticks were so perfectly accurate, they returned to zero FAR better and more accurately than the controller when it was brand new from Microsoft. I highly recommend these sticks as either a repair OR an upgrade, but only if you have the skill and equipment to install them without damaging the PCB.

Great replacement for the original drift heavy Xbox sticks. The added joystick caps are actually pretty nice as well, feel about the same and have an added metal ring on the stem to reduce plastic dust and wear and tear. Would definitely recommend these as a replacement since they're cheaper than a new controller and helps prevent further e-waste. Hopefully will never have to replace them anytime soon (or ever again?). For those who are perhaps a bit uneasy about de-soldering and soldering in general, check with your local game stores to see if they can replace them. So long as you provide the sticks and do the re-calibration (the Xbox itself can walk you through it) then I'm sure they'd probably do it for a cheaper price then buying another controller.

any PS4 should update these. i did a full video on the replacement of them, its easy. combine this with a battery upgrade and your set for life, no more drift! TMR is Tunnel Magnetic Resistance. and its magnetics vs carbon disk rubbing that causes the wear which causes the drift. here is my video on it i hope this helps sell you on these. they are easy to replace with a little soldering, they fit perfectly and work great. and not expensive at all!! great value.

Review Update - June 24, 2026: Nearly a year later and these things are STILL going strong, making this officially the longest I've had a controller in this generation. They have shown zero signs of drift or error. A controller typically wouldn't last me more than 3-6 months under standard potentiometers, I have now easily doubled and can very potentially, triple this number. These things are a longevity godsend, and it is completely mystifying why companies are still gravitating towards tech meant to fail easily. They really DO stand the test of time, so much that other parts of the controller are starting to show signs of wear, but this is from normal use and it still works like the day I had these installed. Typically I change my review down the line on either the positive or negative spectrum, though sadly for this particular one, I have to leave it at 4 stars, only because the thumbsticks are half the product, and as mentioned in my original review, I did not use them in my setup, which means half the product was not useful to me. This however, still gets high marks and endless praise for it's longevity promise, which it definitely held up to. I fully expect another component on the controller to fail well before the sticks now. Original review is below. To start: Most modern controllers are made with the same potentiometer design with a graphite trace and metal wiper design. Eventually, either contaminants, wear to the wiper, or wear to the trace all cause a bad read on the stick position, causing the dreaded phenomenon among gamers known as stick drift. I have a DualSense controller I had taken out of storage due to countless others that have hit the controller graveyard not due to other problems, but due to this one fault. I decided that enough was enough, and that there was no reason to be junking controllers due to a fault of one cheap part. So instead of using this particular one right out of the box, I decided to give TMR sticks a try. This problem is not exclusive to the DualSense - controller design has been using this same solution for the past 15-20 years and shows no signs of changing. It has been the death of many a controller, even though nothing else may be wrong with it. This kit, promises to fix that. Or, at the very least, give it a more reasonable lease on life before total failure. Main point that everyone should know about this before buying: Installation of this kit will be next to impossible unless you have some idea of how to solder components to a PCB. I at the time of this writing do not, which prompted me to first seek out someone who could perform the service. If you do not have prior knowledge on how to do this, seeking someone out who knows should be your first priority before even considering this. The kit came with two TMR modules for soldering, and two thumbsticks to retrofit onto the top of the modules once the job is complete. For my install, I sought out a local electronics repair shop. Almost any reputable electronics shop will have tools and professionals who can solder or micro-solder. This will be enough for the job. I asked them to install these onto the motherboard for the DualSense and all they would charge me is the fee to do so. I ended up asking them to only install the modules, with the stock DualSense thumbsticks. I did not use the ones that came with the kit, only because I was already used to the stock ones. I did not like the feel, grip, or circumference of the ones that came with the kit. The circumference of the top is less than that of a stock DualSense thumbstick. Although the thumbstick is rubberized, the top had this smooth plastic feel to it, even though it is clearly rubber. The only grip that I saw on it was ribbing on the outer edge. Presumably, the thumbsticks the kit comes with are a detachable design, and are advertised as being so to attach sticks of different heights. Here's the catch though: These other heights are not included in this package, and are sold separately by Gulikit. The only purpose in detaching the sticks that I would find without owning this kit is to clean them when dirty. Being that the repair shop did the installation of the hardware, I cannot comment on how easy this installation might be. I am under the assumption it depends solely on how handy you are with hardware. Initially, after the repair shop installed these, they had analog circularity error sitting at 12-14%. Stock DualSense potentiometers typically have around 7-9% circularity error on average. That is, until I learned that they had attempted to calibrate them in-house. What tool they used for this is unknown, but it is extremely important that you read the product description on Amazon before and after installing these - Gulikit has a dedicated test and calibration website made available directly in a browser for calibrating this brand of TMR sticks. This should be the tool you use for these particular ones. It's also very important that you do exactly as the tool says, not following its instructions could leave your deadzone sitting elsewhere on the stick, instantly causing drift, or it will raise the circularity on the stick throw to one side or another. After I used the tool on my home PC, circularity error on the sticks dropped down to between 2-4%. That dropped any questions about the quality of the part. Had I not known much about software calibration, this is something that could have very much damaged my experience with them. As for how long they will last, I cannot say for certain. But being that there are no wipers or traces and magnetoresistance is used instead, I imagine the durability should at the very least, be far longer than parts grinding up on each other, wearing down their durability over time. I am quite literally taking it on good faith that this will be the controller that lasts me the longest, well into another console generation. So far I have tested it on multiple games, and I can say that deadzone settings on games can once again be lower than if I did have stick drift, but not completely eliminated. It is important to understand that absolutely no analog input will be completely 0 on both X and Y axis, there is always some offset, even if it is very small. Also, games may offer you deadzone settings, while others do not and have a predetermined deadzone hard programmed into the game. Your mileage will vary, but this is why you tweak settings when they are available. The important thing is that the offset does not affect the experience. And these perform very well, even on very low deadzone settings. As stated on the box, TMR work best when throwing the stick in a cardinal direction. They keep their heading unless you make a small movement, which does not make them any more or less precise than potentiometers. I cannot say the same is true for Hall Effect, as I have never owned a controller with Hall Effect to make the comparison. So far overall, I like the product very much, but it is broadly inaccessible to a wide audience unless you have a certain subset of skills and tools, namely hardware, and software knowledge. This is hardly a failure of the kit however, as it is explained that certain skills are expected of you. What I also found is that you must plan ahead for both scenarios equally or this will end in failure. I also ended up not using the included thumbsticks, which is half the product. I did not find them useful, but you may, especially if your stock thumbsticks are badly worn and need replacement. About price: Consider your baseline knowledge into the price. Buying them from Amazon will literally be the price you pay if you understand exactly what to do and not have to pay someone else to do it. If you must pay service fees to shops for either the hardware or software components of this modification, you can easily double or triple the price of this at the end of everything.

These PS5 replacement sticks are excellent! Listen, because of my poor desoldering skills, I applied way, way too much heat to these while trying to get them fully seated. I still can’t believe I didn’t burn off all the traces on the PCB. When I finally got everything installed and applied first aid to the ends of my fingers, I discovered that they actually still worked! They feel smooth as butter under my thumbs while playing. I see a few comments about stick drifting but think it could be because some might have forgot to calibrate after the repair. So far everything is great! I don’t know about their longevity, but if they can survive that kind of torture test, they get a thumbs-up from me!

assuming you have at least half decent soldering skills, these are pretty much set and forget. have had any issues on this xbox version yet. no calibration needed.

I had a repair shop install these on my old DualSense, they also calibrated it, and the sticks managed to reach as low as around 3% circularity error. The addition of easily removable thumbsticks makes this a rather compelling product, since you can buy the "King Kong Ring Thumbstick Kit" and have different heights that you can swap to. Most stick replacements don't really offer something similar from what I've seen, so it's quite a nice bonus. While I am happy with the sticks, they're a little too stiff in the lowest input zones. If you're trying to register as little input as possible it's actually quite challenging, which makes me wonder if going with the tension adjustable module GuliKit has instead would have been better. Also, when moving the sticks in a certain position and letting go, it doesn't always return to 0.00, it instead hangs around at 0.01 or 0.02. Max I've observed was 0.02, I've tried to calibrate that away but it doesn't quite go away. This might be very reasonable, or completely unreasonable. I don't quite know, though I'm including it in case this is a deal breaker for anyone, though I have no idea how much of this is tied to how the repair shop installed it or even if they installed it perfectly whether or not you'll get the same experience if the unit to unit variance is high. Either way, not a bad product, just a little too stiff. As for the installation, I most definitely would not recommend trying to install these yourself if you have no experience in doing things similar. I highly recommend just looking towards a nearest repair shop instead.

These have breathed new life into my limited edition xbox controller that kept getting stick drift issues. Even after disassembling and cleaning the potentiometers twice on the original, drift would come back after a couple of months. Couldn't bear to part with my beloved controller so fitted these into it and have had zero problems since. Very happy that the original thumbsticks are compatible with this, so the external look of my controller hasn't changed. Installation of the first took a long time as my desoldering pump was old and clogged, but once I replaced that the second one was replaced in 10 minutes! I will say that the installation is for more experienced solderers, but worth the time. Feeling very confident in the quality of these sticks, while they have a slightly different feel to the original, it's only noticeable for the first 30 minutes, then you no longer notice it (and they may even feel better than the original). Calibration was no problem and handled by the Xbox Accessories software, requiring no fiddling like a hall effect joystick would. Very happy with this purchase and the time I took to install them, now I no longer have to worry if my beautiful controller is going to become an annoying burden every few months!
