What kind of paper are y’all using?

I use card stock for paper crafts or copier paper for chip bags. Works great.

Is this a plastic sheet to go in a roller? Or is it something you emboss with on a flat surface?

It's creates a n embossed, raised impression off their design only then roller when your turn them crank lever as their paper feeds through their roller. It's makes interesting backgrounds when making greeting cards android other crafts without paper.

what kind of paper weight works best? Can you use metal?

I have not tried metal. The best way to tell which paper weight works best is to try the paper. I have tried 24 weight and lighter and it works great. A heavy cardstock works well too. I am sure aluminum foil will do just as good. If the paper is too thick to feed through the device then you know it is not a good fit.
