This Gospel Commentary truly represents the Restored teachings of Jesus Christ
The Second Coming of Christ This book is so revealing, inspiring and illuminating of Jesus and His teachings, that I would class it as the most profound RESTORATION OF THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS. Yogananda's newest book "The Second Coming of Christ" will not disappoint those who have waited long for this literary spiritual masterpiece from Self-Realization Fellowship Publishers.[released Sept 2004 Although bible academics will tell you that anything written over 50 years ago may be out of date. You will find that this Gospel commentary is at least equal to if not superior to anything written to date on this subject. There are a number of things that make this work especially qualified to represent the true teachings of Jesus the Christ. (a)The author Himself actually lived the life described in these gospels- Paramahansa Yogananda was a modern Christ in every regard. If one cannot see this in the Second Coming book, this fact can be further verified through a couple of more years study of the Masters life and other teachings. Plus there are still a few living witnesses to His divine stature. (b)Yogananda goes far beyond other academics/clergy and theologians. he not only gives a spiritually potent and convincing explanation of Jesus teachings, but also the full and clearest methodology on how to reach that high state of self-realization. He takes you on the actual journey and explains every step of the way. You would not get more or better instruction even if you were in the presence of another physical teacher. (c)the proof and value of the spiritual instruction in the second coming have already been effectively verified by Yogananda's divine lineage and many successor disciples-it works! (d)His approach that he is not attempting to prove the authenticity and factualness of the Early Gospels [see Page 69] is very telling of His foresight and wisdom. This very area, is where many embarrassed and presumptuous previous writers made their first mistake. Assuming that everything in writing is the unadulterated "word of God." This caution alone sets him apart and speaks to his humility. (e)He uses the mystical path of Yoga Sciences and Vedic spiritual wisdom as the background to share with us the inner/fuller meanings and purposes of Jesus the Christ's teachings and mission. Whereas various other commenters on these same documents have been attempting to show the origins of many Gospel passages as originating in Buddhistic and Egyptian traditions. (f)The value and veracity of a true revelatory spiritual message rests in part upon its useful and original ideas for the spiritual seeker. Here Yogananda gives us a cornucopia of valuable and refreshingly original approaches to many of the heretofore mysteries of the bible. He fills in a lot of the blanks that were left when other writers on these subjects attempted to come up with similar concepts. One can clearly see herein the difference between previous "attempts" to explain subtle matters and Yogananda's finished product. (g) And above all, the author avoids the greatest of all pitfalls so many others got tripped up on - the true meaning of Christ's second coming. You will find in the gospels that the reason why JEsus says "no man can know the day or the hour of his return" , is simply because he will not be making a public earth shaking appearance. His second coming occurs in the lives of those who become one with Him or God and is happening to a few souls continually. All others who have attempted to claim the other idea of a public return have ended up looking like fools and frauds. They were all lost in popular belief systems. PY instead supports his universal Christ Consciousness theory with ample evidence and conviction. Freeing all seekers and faithful from the blind opportunism that has victimized them in the past by the popular doomsday Jesus return concepts. It gives credit to this Gurus way of returning the power from bad leaders to the individual devotee. It further demonstrates how obedience to the Master results in the greatest freedom and god-realization for all who make the effort using the right means. Then one becomes truly free. This work seems to truly represent the Jesus of Judean times. Before time, men and politics distorted and/or lost so much of the beautiful wisdom that Jesus taught back then. And some that was kept so secretive, as was required in the mystical customs of old. It is truly fitting that after the attempts of so many other well meaning but ineffectual claims of other prophets who claimed credit for restoring Jesus true teachings, it is a prophet from India [where Jesus spent almost half of his life] who is able to finally reveal the true light of that ancient and holy teaching. A light that has already given new hope to millions of spiritual seekers around the globe for the last hundred or so years. This book tells us about some of Jesus amazing connections with India that have been verified through history. It goes into great detail on spiritual practice and healing, the Master -Disciple relationship as the door to heaven before death, and the value of the spiritual life to the fulfillment of ones every other goal of life.

Prodigious!!!!
This treatise is grand in scope, penetrating in delivery, graceful in mood and abundantly pregnant with insight, joy and relevance for any seeker of truth. Master takes his time and an enormous amount of effort to coalesce the teachings of the far east with those of the middle east and far west for that matter. I have always had a plentitude of trouble reading the bible, the concepts were far more delicate and esoteric than simply "do as I say" but, I just couldn't wrap my brain around them. What Sri Yogananda has done is make the teachings of Jesus readily accessible to everyone. Unfortunately; time, language barriers, editing errors, transliteration problems and misleading interpretation has made understanding the bible at least difficult and perhaps even perilous to many. However, Sri Yogananda has done a masterful job at translation & description with "Second Coming." I would strongly advise one to read one or two of Masters other books prior to taking on this masterpiece, if for no other reason than to get acquainted with his writing style and use of symbolism. That said, I also strongly recommend that this book be "studied" as opposed to simply "read". Take in a few discourses and then contemplate them, back track as much as possible to cement concepts into place. In any event; this is a thoroughly enjoyable, intelligent, brilliantly conceived and executed work. Five stars without batting an eye. Thank you Masters' Jesus and Yogananda. UPDATE! I have now completely read both volumes from cover to cover, including all the footnotes and addenda. This incredible masterpiece has done more for my understanding of Creation, Life, Truth, Joy and over all Well Being than just about all other books ...... combined! This tour de force put ideas, concepts, and their accompanying details into a format that can be absorbed, retained and practiced. The love, patience, endurance and balance of mind it took Sri Yogananda to capture on paper; the teachings of Master Jeshua, is simply overwhelming. Yet consider what Christ Jesus did in his lifetime as explained in these rapturous works, and it can't help but uplift your being. Soooooo many lessons...........

Great Synthesis of Yogic Philsophy and Christianity
I have been a long time Kriyaban but I have never been fond of organizations like Ananda or the SRF. I will even admit that Autobiography of a Yogi never touched me the way it has so many other seekers. I just never got it, I could believe the miracles and I didn't doubt his story to be true. I just don't click with Yogananda. Recently I purchased and read "Living with the Himalayan Masters" by Swami Rama, I found myself resonating with him more even though his stories and Yoganandas are somewhat similar. I mostly just attribute this to the fact that, hey Yogananda is not my guru so if there is no spark it isn't a problem maybe my personality just doesn't line up well with him. However, as a person looking to integrate the Christianity I was born into with the ideals of Kriya Yoga it was suggested to me by my own guru that I read this book. Yogananda may not be my over all guru but as it comes to integrating Christianity with Sanatana Dharma I have yet to find his equal because of this book. At first I was skeptical, I figured since I wasn't too impressed with his autobiography maybe this would be more of the same. But I was thankfully mistaken. The only complaint I have so far is that at times his language is a little too flowery and verbose. He will spent two paragraphs describing something that could be explained in a sentence or two. But that's just my own preference, the content is what matters here and he definitley delivers on that. I would whole heartedly recommend this book to someone seeking to integrate Kriya Yoga and a Christian mythos.

The book speaks to me.
So far I am loving this book set. Let me tell you how come I purchased this book. I was baptized Roman Catholic, but I was never a devout Catholic. As I got older, I gave up on organized religion. I've been to several different denominations and while were good, I would stop attending once the church started preaching superiority over other denominations. I'd stop going when the church would start preaching hate toward Muslims or LGBT or if appeared the main focus was asking for money. I always considered myself more spiritual than anything. I believed in God because it was all I knew, but also believed in the law of attractions, the golden rule, "do onto others as you'd have done to you," and I stronger disagree with the notation that if you are not Christian you will not make it to heaven. Then I had lost my way and felt so disconnected from God because of my lack in faith with the church systems. I had purchased the Yoga of Jesus 8 or 9 years ago, but never read it. The Yoda of Jesus is a short overview of this collection. I got about half way through and knew I had to get this. This collection speaks to me. I'm a slow reader, but it just makes sense. It talks about the science of religion and makes that connection to God, Jesus, and the Holy Sprit. The hard cover is a beautiful set.

Excellent Read
I’m happy I purchased this 2 volume written by Paramahansa Yogananda! “The Second Coming of Christ” is a must have. P.Y. did an excellent job simplifying the teachings of Jesus. During sermons, I’ve always felt like something was missing or need more answers and I can honestly say Sunday school did not help either but I’ll tell ya by purchasing these books. I now have a complete understanding of Jesus teachings as well P.Y. lessons. 👍 What are you waiting for? Purchase this set!

The Second Coming of Christ
The book is one that is required reading for a class. It is a beautiful book. The print is not too small and is very easy to read. The pictures are exquisite. Of course, as one would expect, it is not fast reading as you have to go slowly in order to take in all the new concepts that are being presented. I have found that I stop a lot just to say "AMAZING". Reading this is a pleasure. It is also a joy to know that the knowlege imparted in these teachings is allowing my Soul to travel further along the path it so desperately wants to follow. This book is truly an incredible interpretation. As I read it, I am amazed at how these words resonate for me, more so than any of the other interpretations read or heard that are circulating today among "Bible scholars". To again hear the true meaning of the words of the Christ is a treasure and the fact that everyone has the opportunity, especially at this time, is a true gift. I thank my mentor for allowing me the opportunity to refresh my memories for, without his guidance, I would never have found this book.

Unique in the literature
This is a detailed commentary on the Christian gospels, giving the primary position to the Gospel of John (appropriately). Some other commentaries give a lot of detail regarding the various early manuscripts of these documents and what we know about the writers and the times in which they were written. That kind of commentary often does little indeed for a person who wants to know what the scripture means and how our own lives ought to change in light of that scripture. So, we could say that most commentaries do not represent "engineering theology" as I think they should. It is true that some more recent commentaries do have a more pastoral "what does it mean" character. Unique in all the literature, this is an explanation of the very detailed meaning of the scripture given by a person known to be a very high level and accomplished mystic, a person of stature, of expertise of that kind. So, it would be a poor idea to dismiss this book quickly. The author claims to have met with Jesus in mystical vision and to have had from Jesus Himself explanations of these true meanings. That would not be credible for me, but, then, I am not a great mystic. It is, of course, possible for him. Mystics can have that sort of experience, no doubt about it---and that's for sure. Many of the detailed explanations of comments of this book are unexpected, even to a person who has studied religious matters seriously for a long time. On several points, it does disagree with the usual teachings of standard Christian Churches, including my own church. An individual person would have no particularly good way to choose which teaching would be correct, but it is, I think, very useful to see this interpretation or teaching. In the end, the author claims that Jesus' true, core teaching is fully consistent with the Bhagavad Gita, and that it re-iterates, in esoteric ways, the path to spiritual growth that is often known as Raja Yoga in the east. So, the suggestion is that Jesus was teaching something equivalent to Raja Yoga as the right way for development. This is not wholly satisfactory, since this book doesn't tell exactly how the recommended practice would be done. For that, other works would be required. It isn't really possible for an uninitiated person to know clearly whether or not this esoteric meaning is real. It is good notification, and it is an idea worth considering. Still, it would be difficult to know for myself just whether or not it is true. I would like to see for myself, to know for myself. My own opinion is that some aspect of the message of Jesus has been omitted or slightly distorted in the teaching I have received from standard sources. If that were not so, I would expect that the lives of all the people sincerely trying to follow Jesus as the Way would display in their own lives very great presence and working of the Holy Spirit. I would expect that many would find the experience "I and the Father are One." It doesn't really appear that many do. So, something seems to have gone a little wrong. Maybe this, that Paramahamsa Yogananda is saying, might be the missing piece. I don't know---and still don't have a good way to find out. Still, it is a unique insight and may be helpful.

BEST BOOK READ
"The Second Coming of Christ" is the best book I've read to date. It was inspirational from start to finish and a hard book to put down. Anyone who is consistant in daily meditation will be able to find the truths presented in Paramahansa Yogananda's book on the teachings of Jesus, and find the Christ within. Christ consciousness is the projected consciousness of God immanent in all creation; The cosmic intellegence of Spirit everywhere. This consciousness can be felt as one with God in deep meditation. This is the last paragraph of the book: "May Christ come into your consciousness a second time as prosperity, as health, as the perception and fullfillment of all your hopes in the divine consciousness. And may Christ come to you in finding divine love through the perfection of your love in some human relationship, and in finding omnipresence (the property of being present everywhere) in your human consciousness. May Christ come, bringing you infinite bliss, infinite wisdom, infinite joy. He is born in the cradle of your heart. May Christ come to you a second time in the vibration of your body as the Aum (Amen) (that aspect of the Godhead which creates and sustains all things) of which all bodies, all universes, have been created. May He come a second time--to you--and be established in your consciousness forever." BEAUTIFUL! (Note: Wording within the bracketts were my additions.)

Spiritually priceless. Too costly for an e-book
The book is priceless in terms of its spiritual value. Incomparable.... As an e-book the price should have been less for Indian customers more so when the printed volumes cost less.

LIFE-CHANGING.
Having grown up in a Christian tradition and having read the entire Bible many times, I have never seen an interpretation that resonates so much with my soul and with so many universal values! Yogananda breaks down several famous biblical passages and explain them through unconventional, yet scientific and UNIVERSAL principles, that have never made sense for me before through a sectarian/religious view. Second Coming of Christ has been part of my daily routine every day this year and has transformed me and impacted my life decisions. This book along with Yogananda's SFR lessons have been one of the best consciousness expander life has given me - absolutely life-changing.

Luca8,16-18 Consigliato vivamente a TUTTI. Apre la mente, aiuta a capire e ci porta lungo la Via della Verità. Da leggere e rileggere, ma soprattutto DA VIVERE insieme a "La Bibbia di Gerusalemme" EDB. (Altro doppio volume che consiglio è "God Talks to Arjuna" The Baghavad Gita -SRF Pubblications. Se si volesse leggere la Bhagavad Gita in italiano consiglio: "La Bhagavad Gita Così Com'è" - A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Bhaktivedanta Book Trust). Grazie, Francesco

Fabulous books, easy to read, eye opening
I love Yogananda and his way of writing. These books are very well written, easy to understand and eye opening, it will help you understand parts of the Bible in ways you never did before. Books are also well made with thick card covers that are covered in a thin plastic and the paper used in the book is nice quality as well. They come in a lovely storage box that keeps the books clean and in nice shape. Highly recommended if you love the words of Paramahansa yoganandaji ❤️
