good value
order this product on the 16th sep,and it arrived two working days later. prompt service was a good start. i was a little apprehensive as i have the original gernster. i needed not have worried, as the product was almost as good as the original.the dimensions were a little different. the height and width were about the same, but the length was about six inches longer,so you get more bang for your buck.due to the extra length means the configuration of the drawers is a little different, but this does not effect it's performance in any way. the price of the box was about half the price of the gernster, the hinges and handles were exactly the same as the gernster,as was the colour of the box and over all build and strength. i use this box for fishing tackle storage, and would recommend it to others. it would also suit a myriad of others such as watch menders and jewelry makers...

For the price it’s an excellent box!
Good Box, not as good a quality finish as you would hope. The only small things I was disappointed with are the brass fittings are tacky. Also the pins that hold the front panel closed are activated by pressing the lid closed. Firstly if the lid is open the front flap can fall open when you don’t want it to. Secondly the wood on the lid where the pins press is not strong enough. It already had indents when I got it. I will be putting a strip of metal there to protect it! My original review was posted in 2013 and its now 2015 so I wanted to update that its aging well. The wood is looking good and the fittings are a bit better with age and use. The strip of metal I mentioned above is a must though.

Good looking, but skin deep.
One previous reviewer mentioned the pins holding the front flat shut indenting the wood on the lid, this has been attended to and now the box comes with metal inserts. Whether these will push into the wood remains to be seen. The problem with the flap dropping as you release the lid remains. I intend to glue a small neo magnet into a hole in the flap top edge and a countersunk steel screw into the underside of the lid front which should stop that. One drawer is so tight that I've had to pull it apart, clean up the joints and reassemble. That's meant removing the drawer base and that's allowed me to remove the green felt which on past experience just holds muck. That I now have just the drawer frame should let me saw some grooves and put in drawer dividers as I put the base back in. I'm probably going to do that with all the drawers. I'm hoping that going from a cantilever tool box to one with drawers will make tools more readily available but it is going to be much heavier. One problem I see is that only the opening top will take any thing of real depth. It would have been much more practical (though heavier again) with the bottom drawer say 4 or even 5 inches deep. I'm using it for model railways, a deeper drawer would for instance hold the transformer for a Proxxon mini drill.

Cheap looking and all round garbage.
The description is basically lieing. The picture does a huge amount of justice. The flooring of the draws is very thin pressed wood. hard to believe any of it is "Hardwood". The key and lock is flimsy and cheap (a baby could break into it!) The runners are all splintered and horrible. Can't see this lasting not even a year in the workshop. Even the Hinges are wonky! Not worth £180 by a long shot.

but not quite as good as it looks
ok, but not quite as good as it looks. Some veneer needed resticking.
