Waking the Dead: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive [Eldredge, John] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Waking the Dead: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive Review: Eye opening and Life Changing - I've just ordered 6 of these books to give out to others. I've been recommending it for years. I've been through this book 4 or 5 times now, once in a men's bible study. It is so "eye opening" to me. It's impact on my life has been huge! So many impacting concepts, they are too numerous to mention them all. To start off, I became "acquainted" with John back in the mid-80's when my wife was in his drama group for a year in Southern California. As he writes about those times in his books(I've read Wild at Heart and Waking the Dead), it shed some light on the John Eldgridge I observed back then. I could relate with his statements about himself and the change that has taken place in his life. (I've had no further contact with him beyond those "drama group" times.) I love the style with which John writes. It's not like these principles were brand new to me. He just relates to me like no other writer ever has. Most importantly, He has helped me open my eyes even more so to the reality of the spiritual warfare around us. "Things are not what they seem!" How many of us forgot what the first part of John 10:10 was? I DID...AND SO DID JOHN. Regarding our Healing, Chapter 8 helped me get past a roadblock that had affected me for years. I found myself working through that chapter at a park and told God I was not leaving until He disclosed "that past wound" that had been hindering me. He DID and I am so grateful for it. I agree with John that the Four Streams he talks about are imperative for our spiritual growth. This IS the BEST book I've ever read! This book will have the tendency to get you into the Bible more. It is our responsibility to do so. Waking the Dead: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive Review: Waking the Dead, by John Eldredge - If you have progressed in growth and years in your spiritual walk with Christ, I recommend this book. I know that sounds like I am putting you down or something, but if you have just accepted Christ--maybe this is too much according to other reviews I read. I was captivated by the book and thought of my friend who is a new Christian. I immediately wanted to order this book on CD's for her, but after reading some of the reviews here; maybe she would have their same responses. I was blown away by the grace walk that John Eldrege sends you toward in this book. I love the "guard your heart." I loved every part of the book. I have read everything Bible based I can get my hands on and this is good stuff. This one will be a jewel for you to tuck in your heart. I have written my own prayer that I read every morning to God. Yes, I know that sounds stiff, but whatever it takes to not ramble and be so brief with my short prayers. The Holy Spirit will groan for me anyway. The reviews I have read made me realize that everyone is not at the same place to hear the words that the book was saying. Once again I risk sounding, not right. I do not know how else to say that it has caused me to not give my friend the CD of the book. I am still excited about what the book has done for me. There is another book by Jerry Bridges, "Who Am I? Identity in Christ" that is more appropriate for a new Christian so I am glad to be alerted to that by these reviews that seemed to have caught something different from this book, "Waking the Dead" than I did. I highly recommend this book, Waking the Dead, if you want to have many new tools to guide you through your journey.

A powerful read
Another great book from John Eldredge that captures what is missing in most Christians today. 'Waking the Dead' is exactly what needs to happen in our communities and churches! John clearly walks close to God and in turn God really speaks through him in his books! As humans we look in every possible place, in substances and in other people to make us feel 'real', so that we might feel truly alive. We can BE truly alive, in the glory that was meant for us from the beginning. Take back the authority that has been restored to you through Christ, and truly live! John's books are like no others! These are not the same 'Christian' books that you've passed up before because they speak of things that seem unreachable or not applying to your 'real' life. Very well written book. One that you won't want to put down, I know I sure didn't! It's a good realization about how things are supposed to be, and how we've gotten caught up in the world and have taken our focus off where it needs to be. Our desire is to be free and it's a reality that we can truly experience! Enjoy the book! I cannot recommend this book more, read it, gift it and share it with everyone.

This unassuming little book could revolutionize the church, reminding us that Jesus not only died for us, He was RAISED for us. It's also great to see how John uses stories and myth to connect with people today. How can I use the movie I watched last week to share the Good News of our Loving God with my neighbor?

Is book changed my life. My relationship with God is restored and deeper than ever. My life is more positive with my focus now on God and living life. It is no longer in the shadows and mere existance. My mother also bought the book and experienced a similar awakening. I cannot say whether you will experience the same profound impact I did, but I can recommend you try it.
